fuel/water seperator placement

I don't know if it makes a difference or not,but I want to add a fuel/water separator and I I don' t know if it goes online before or after the primer bulb. So if someone out there could clear this up I would really appreciate it. I have a fifty horse outboard.

As far as I know it doesn't make any difference. I've done them both ways (before and after the bulb). To my knowledge, never a problem. Sometimes packaging constraints get in the way and we just had to make it work whichever way we could.

Nowdays some of the outboard manufacturers will not allow a seller to register the warranty until the filter/separator has been installed, among other things. I know we have to check the box that says "filter/sep installed" on the pre-delivery inspection forms, and the forms have to be submitted before they'll register it properly. They're getting pretty strict on fuel delivery stuff with all the sub-par fuel blends coming to the market.

Thanks for your help, I was hoping either way would work. Warranty is not an issue, 87 Yamaha on a 63 Alumacraft

I've never seen one after the bulb. Usually, the separator is mounted below deck somewhere out of the way, and the bulb is near the engine where it's easily accessible. That's the way I did both of mine. The standard screw-on filters I use are thin steel, so I wanted them somewhere the salt water/air couldn't get to them as easily.
