....fishing down here has started to heat up so to speak as we have had a few weeks of some nice warm weather and the water temps are getting into the mid 60's. Have had more than the usual amount of rain this year but after the drought we went through last year and a half this is a good thing! All the lakes north of Houston and farther inland are starting to finally come back up as well as the salinity levels of Galveston Bay are going down due to the influx of much needed fresh water.
The Black Drum are starting to show both in the surf as well as the Galveston Jetties on the East end of the Island. Have read a few reports from friends that have landed several in the 50lb class in the last week. Down here we usually CPR (catch/photo/release) as when they are that big they aren't worth a darn on the table.
Redfish are working the grasslines and the flats on the high tide as well as the bayous and drains on the outgoing tides.
Speckled trout are hit and miss but seem to be a good bet in East and Trinity Bays over shell or hard bottom. Topwater lures are starting to see some big blow ups so soon when the water hits that magical 70 degrees it will be time to put up the waders for the year and catch some sows!
The flounder must have this year decided to stay in the Bay as we have been catching them all winter. They usually migrate out into the Gulf but to be honest I don't think they ever left! Soft plastics bumped along the bottom are the usual and some quality fish are being caught as well as with a gig.

Will post some pics and add to this thread from time to time to share what's going on down here!
