New member new/first project. I have been reading this board for awhile and been learning a lot. So I now have my first boat and am going to try to put some of that new found knowledge to work. Im attaching some pics and would appreciate any suggestions for mods, ideas or what you would do with it. Some ideas that Im kicking around right now are front and rear decks, remove the middle seat and put floors down (I dont see a time I would use the livewell and if for some reason I need one would just use a portable as I could use the extra floor space for hunting), The trailer needs redone front to back top to bottom. I know Ill get responses to take it out fishing in it first before deciding to do any mods and I agree but the engine needs work (will be doing a rebuild) before I trust it to be out in the water. Fishing season is pretty much over for me as of today as hunting season starts tomorrow and Ill spend any free time I have doing that. The boat and trailer will be my winter project. I plan to start with the motor then the trailer and lastly the boat. What I may do is get the trailer and motor done. Then take it out for waterfowl to get some ides for the boat for a hunting set up as well as fishing.

Take a look at my Alumacraft 1448. Might get some ideas from that.

Take care,

I have looked at your boat, its real nice! Question the bow platform that you extended, did you create any storage under the factory front deck? Im assuming its probably going to be stuffed with Styrofoam or something. But I would like to turn into some storage, but adding doors to the top not sure if I will have to add any support underneath.

I'm a big fan of the front deck storage compartment. I've done it on two boats now, I did use 3/4" ply on top for a deck which makes it very stout. Just make sure you don't cut the hatch too big and you'll be fine. Good luck.

I left the small factory deck and foam in for 2 reasons. 1. The factory deck is structural support for the boat and 2. I would not have gained much storage space taking it out. There is a lot of storage space under the custom deck, even with the dry storage box and battery box. Right now I have 4 life jackets under there with plenty of room for more junk.

With under-deck storage, dry storage box and under-seat storage, I'd be willing to say that I have more storage than some 1860 boats.

Nice! That is very similar to my Grumman. If you yank the center seat you will have quite the dance floor. I did mine all aluminum with a front deck extension, sliding doors and a hatch. I didn't cut into the existing fr deck. You'll have room for gun and decoy storage for sure on the sides. With a tiller you should have a real nice hunting rig. One piece of advice. If you sheet the floor, put a drain in the center somewhere. I did one centered at the seam of the floor and r seat.

pics of mine..and it's for sale.

This looks very similar to the 1542 Grumman Scrambler that I am almost finished rebuilding except mine didn't have the center seat. There is surprisingly little storage space under the front deck. I removed mine and beef-up under the aluminum skin with 3/4" ply sealed with epoxy resign. The edges were tapered to follow the contour of the hull. Once reinstalled, it is solid as a rock. I reinstalled the factory foam and still had enough space to install a small glove box on the vertical leg. I love how much open space these boats have. It should make an excellent hunting boat.

I wasnt planning on removing it just cutting a space for a battery box and maybe one dry storage box.

How did you do the sliding doors I like them also will the drain in the middle of the floor be ok with foam under?
