Hello everyone. I've been lurking on the boards for a couple of months now while I searched for that deal on a project boat. I finally found one a couple of weeks ago. I scored a Starcraft V-Hull 16' for 150.00! Its definately a project boat and needs alof of TLC. Its my first time doing this type of thing, and I have no illusions about how hard it will be, but I'm looking forward to turning her into a nice bass boat. I must say that after seeing Dyin2fishe's post here (https://www.tinboats.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=9177&start=28) I became very inspired on what I can do with mine. I have a question regarding the size (thickness) of alluminum it would take to make a deck that has a frame and support underneath. I know alot of people use wood for the actual deck, and aluminum for the frame and support, but I would like to use all aluminum. What thickness would be good for a deck? Below are some before pictures of my boat. Wish me luck! :)

congrats on your new project.
deck thickness can vary, depending on the amount of framing. thin sheet=more frames, thick sheet=less frames.

an aluminum deck will be more expensive, more difficult to work with, and noisy compared to plywood (might spook the fish). it will also tend to be hotter under the sun than wood. i'm curious why do you prefer it.

don't worry about plywood longevity. we have boats made entirely of plywood which are over 20 years old and still in good condition. the secret to plywood decking is proper sealing and maintenance. and if it ever rots, very cheap and easy to replace.

your boat, your call of course. just sharing my opinion.

good luck and keep us posted.

Nice boat, it looks English :LOL2:

LMAO!!!! yeah ive never seen the wheel on that side either........
.125 or smaller depending on your framework for your deck and if you have access to a brake.

Thanks for all the input guys. I was thinking of 1/8'' aluminum for the actual decking. I still have alot of work to do before I even think about the deck, but need to find the time. I still need to do the "leak test", and get it steelflexed and painted and what not. Then I will have to figure out the structure for framing of the deck. I just want to make sure it supports well.
