Ideas for landing pad for Fishing Baits

I was wondering if anybody has come up with an idea for a material to use on the boat deck to lay my bass baits on while I'm using another rod. Also, the hot deck will weaken fishing line that comes in contact with it. I was thinking of a neoprene (mouse) pad type material or ? that I can glue to the front deck. It would have to be good size - 2' square or so. Trying to keep my boat light and simple.

I just hang mine off the front or side, no real drama unless I let the lure sit in the water and something hit it (then lots of drama). I try to keep the sharp hooks out of the boat or in a box.
