i found this forum totally on accident and its what ive been looking for...

that said lets get to business,
A friend and i are gonna start a build on a jon boat converting her into a bassjon. I have a good idea on all the carpentry that itll take so im not worried about that. now my friend and i are young and we like some music playing (not loud we dont like to scare fish). now the practical thing to do is bring a radio but we kinda want to go all out. what would it take to install a sound system...second battery? marine speakers? would car speakers work? head unit? i tried to search for it but came up with nothing any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks for joining!

Whenever you mix water and electronics you can have issues. I personally would get a small battery powered radio with an aux output for an ipod or any mp3 player.

This way you can take it off the boat (wont get stolen), and you can keep it in a plastic bin if it rains.

I was given one of these and it booms! :LOL2:

If your itching to go all out, make sure your speakers are waterproof and your head unit is protected from the elements. I do not think you would need a second battery is needed. On a jon you want to keep the weight to a minimum.

Good luck with whatever you do!

Welcome!

Your going to have problems with a standard head unit. No matter how well you hide them and keep them out of the rain they always seem to get water in them and corrode. I'd stick to a marine head unit. Now the speakers I have seen both car and marine applications and both work, but the marine one's last longer. Good luck with which ever one you choose.
