I posted this on iboats as well. I didn't know this site existed until a member from there posted up a link.

I recently bought a Basstracker that's in need of a lot of tlc. It came with a 40hp mercury that someone tried to work on and lost some pieces to

I've got a pretty decent 25hp mercury that runs out well and whatnot that we had on a 16 foot barge. It pushed the barge pretty well.

Do you think it would be enough for an older basstracker? Not trying to win any races, just get to the fishing holes safely and plane out every now and again.

It should do good. I've got a 16' lowe w/decking and two people it will do almost 30 mph. That's fast enough for me. Easily gets up on plane.

Try it out, thats what I find is the only way to tell. If it does what you want, your good. A lot depends on how much gear/people you have with you. I had a 16 foot riveted jon with a 25 and did about 28 alone, but with a buddy and camping/fishing gear, I lost more power than I would prefer. On the other hand, I always had enough power to feel safe on a fast river. All in what your looking for.
