Im puttin a 20hp on a 14ft crestliner v bottom I have to raise motor I know, Im buildin a jack plate question is how far away from transom do I need motor (do I build it 4 or 5inchs thick or do I need it as close to transom as possible)

Opus,

The setback is really up to you. The farther back you get, the more leverage the motor has on the boat, trying to lift the bow. On a 14' with a 20hp, I think I'd stick with as little set back as I could get away with, but that's just my opinion... I just put a hydraulic jackplate on my 1652, but I also added pods and a tunnel at the same time so it's hard to say exactly what difference the jackplate made by itself.
