Unless you are wireing spot lights, 12ga will carry most any other lighting needs. Auto headlights can be 14ga and many power windows are 12ga.

You want to make sure you use marine grade wire regardless of the gauge you use. The wire has a coating of solder on it so it reduces corrosion.
