Livewell timer

I've got the one from Bass Pro... I'm not sure if it actually works right because if I put it on automatic, it stays on for about 1 min, goes off for 2 min, then repeats that. To be honest though - I leave it on the whole time I have fish in the well - no matter if it's winter or summer

there's hardly any drain from them... and if you are running them in parallel you won't have any problems.

I wish I hadn't spent the money on the timer... I should have just put an on/off switch with it since I leave it running all the time. In my opinion - I wouldn't waste the money on a $30 switch when you can get one just as good for $5

when it comes to fish care you are much better off leaving the live well run ful time..
The last system I put in a boat said several time do not leave the pump running all the time as it will kill the fish. I think it has more to do with what kind of pump it is. If your just recircing the water then that is probably fine. But this was a fresh water pump with a huge overflow and it said leaving the pump on all the time will drown the fish. Apparently there is too much flow for them to be able to breathe properly. That is why that system came with a timer so that it would cycle when it was on and off.

Russ, have you checked to see if the timer has a setting on it. Some of the timers you whould be able to set so that it will run for 1 minute and off for 5 or something like that. Might just check into that.Like this https://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/...225000000_225003000?cmCat=CROSSSELL_THUMBNAIL

I'm thinking about adding a timer to mine as it doesn't have a recirc and the only switch is on the console.

The sound of the pump running seems to bother the fish while spider rigging in shallower water as well (10 ft or less). I can tell a definite difference in the number of bites between running the pump and not.

I don't like having to get up and leave a bunch of poles unattended to walk back and flip the switch on and off, either.

That's not the one I have, and it may actually be better... the one I have has a potentiometer type of setting for the run time - and I swear I don't remember paying $70 for it, but this is it - https://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/...001_896_225003005_225000000_225003000_225-3-5

Don't get me wrong, it works great - but I can't tell if it's on 1, off 3 or on 1 off 1... I think sometimes it has a mind of its' own and just run when it wants to. But I'm not running a standard pump either - it supposed pumps fresh oxygen in 100% of the time. This has been the best thing for my fish since I installed it - https://www.discountmarinesupplies.com/Livewell_Pumps-RULE_OXYGENATOR_LIVEWELL_BAIT_PUMP.html

With all of the research that I have found there were a couple of areas that needed attention.

O2- For obvious reasons the fish need fresh Oxygen introduced into the water. This amount will change depending upon the size of the tank or livewell. The longer the water is stagnet, the longer it will take to replenish the source.

Filteration- Fish as we all know can get quit messy in the tank. This once again can be effected by the size of the tank or livewell. Pollutent water source can be cumbersome to you and the fish.

Movement- Current in the water is good for the fish. But too much current can mentally and physically drain the fish. Having to much or too hard of a current can be deadly to a fish.

A timer switch installed eleviates these problems as well as keeping you the fisherman focused on catching and not focused on the livewell tank. There are different switches out there and depending upon the size that you have or make will determine the style of switch to use.

I have a 25 gallon livewell and I installed a 1-3-5-7 and on continuous switch. Having the available time differences can be met depending upon how much water I put in the tank. The more water, the longer the airator system needs to be cycled. If I fill my livewell with only 12 gallons of water, I can manage the tank on a much shorter circulation plan.

I hope this helps. You can find the same switch at Cabella's or Bass and Pro Shop.
