Saw this on another site and thought I'd supply the info. Supposed to be some real sturdy trays and hold your batt(s) in-place, even in rough water. Seems pricey, but looks like a good long-term investment, imo. Aluminum tray and top bracket, with all stainles hardware:

Those would hold up well. The only down side I see is alot of states require a battery box that covers the terminals. You would still have to either buy a battery box or construct a cover over that one.

Personally, I would recommend a plastic battery box for all batteries. Reason being, if a battery case splits, the acid is going to eat a hole in an aluminum hull, rendering it useable for scrap an not much else. The plastic box (even without lid) will contain the spill, and save your hull. Just my 2 cents worth.

Good point about the containment properties of a plastic battery tray. I'm not sure how much liquid the trays my batts sit in would contain though. I'm thinking there's more liquid in the battery than the tray could hold. One day I will measure the box w/lid style battery boxes and see what the height of one is. I'm thinking it might be too tall and my rear hatch/deck will not close completely.

My boxes (with the lids removed) are about even with the top of a Walmart group 29 deep cycle battery, and only raise the battery 3/8 inch. But, because there is about 1/2 inch on each side of the battery that would be filled in the event of a spill, it would still contain it, with room to spare.

I gonna have to checkout the box w/lid type dimensions (height), and see if they'll fit under the rear hatch/deck. A friend of mine uses them in his 1542 Lowe, but his boat doesn't have the rear deck.
