No idea if this has a name or not, but in the process of replacing my transom I have noticed that the metal tag that is attached to the old transom is mostly illegible. This tag lists the maximum capacity, weight, and horsepower limit of the boat. I would assume for safety reasons this should be on the new transom.

My question is if this is required by law to be on the transom and if so, what to do about not being able to read it. Can a new one be reapplied for with the boats registration number from the state or some other regulatory agency?

Where abouts in Southern Illinois are ya? I'm in the Carbondale area.

My boat that I'm redoing does not have a tag/capacity plate on it. I don't think they are required...just a guideline.
