My 70's Starcraft

Before I get into my 57 Duracraft built I thought I would share my current project with you guys.

What was your prep routine before you started painting. I have a 14' Starcraft that is nearly identical, except that the sheet metal under the bench seats does not attach to the hull and is only attached to the wooden bench seats. These are great boats. Mine has a few leaks that have been getting worse over the past few years, so we are at the planning stage for an overhaul.

Well my first prep was to fix what I thought was a tiny leak in the rear before I painted it. I bought some G flex epoxy at my local boat store after checking out on line. I then filled the boat up half way with water only to find out what I thought was one small leak was about 30 tiny pinhole leaks down the seam in the boat. So I emptied the boat dried it out good ran epoxy down the whole seam. It worked perfect. I am 100% dry all the time now. To prep for paint I hit the whole boat with 120 grit sand paper or steal wool just to scuff the paint or clean where needed. Then I whipped it with a tack cloth and whipped It again with acitone. Then I gave it 4 coats of rustolium clean metal primer. Let that dry for a few days and topped it with 4 coats of rustolium enamel. I let that dry for a week before I put it back in the water and that paint is smooth like glass and hard as a rock. I'm not done yet either I will post new pics in a few days. Stay tuned.

I added a few finishing touches and accessories.

Check them out and tell me what you think. The only thing I have left to do is the tarp. I have come up with a new idea for holding the tarp down. It should be pretty cleaver.
