neg bus placement

Where do you guys have your neg bus placed? Does it need to be in direct contact to the boat or can it be inside a box o plan to make and place under the console?

Not in direct contact with the boat (the boat should NOT be used as a ground).
Putting it near the fuse panel is the easiest way, then your + and - wire runs from your accessories are about the same length.
Other than that, you can put it about anywhere.
