Nissan 5hp upgrades

Hello All,
I have a 1998 5hp Nissan 2 stroke. Money is kinda tight. Any way I can jazz up the performance, say a 6hp carb or other tricks?

You are not gonna get much more out of a 5hp even with a different carb you wont see much dofference. Save your money and get a bigger motor cheaper in the long run.

You might be able to find a set of high performance reed valves for your motor. They claim to add performance and also improve the idle as a bonus. Do a search under "performance reed valves" hopefully someone makes them for your motor. There's a guy in FLA that manufactors them. I spoke with him and he was willing to make a set for my 8hp johnson free because he did not already have them for a 8hp and would use my stock ones for a pat. He only asked that I do some before and after testing and let him know how it worked. The only down side was he needed my reeds for a couple of weeks. Still a sweet deal though. I didn't do it because I'm going to sell that motor to pay for a little Tohatsu 3.5hp I found.
