Depending on the oil and additives put into it by the mfgr., it may degrade the insulation of the windings over time, leading to a shorter life span. (The "insulation" of the windings is nothing more than a good quality varnish coating on the wire before the windings are wound.)
Oil on the brushes are another story. Depending on how much, you may have a poorer connection between the brushes and commutator, causing excess heat and increased arcing. One may also get smoke, for awhile at least, until the oil burnes off from the heat. Worst case scenario might be a fire as that oil burns off.

Believe it or not, there are some places where more oil is not better.
(I once had to repair a machine that used a 90vdc gearmotor to run a feed belt. The gearbox had excessive wear in the gears, and the seal between the motor and gearbox went bad. The oil bled over into the motor, carrying with it all the metallic particles. This caused a wild reaction in the internal magnetic field, blowing fuses until I replaced the seal, cleaned up the motor, and changed out the gear oil.)
