Pos/neg wires to battery w/elect start.

I am a noon! First boat first motor.
14ft tin boat with an 18 hp 2stroke elect start. Both battery cables are black. I'm sure it matters pos to neg but being my first boat thought i would ask?

Someone saved a buck by buying black wire. The positive wire will run to the starter solenoid and the negative wire will be grounded on an engine bolt. Check the battery connection end (if it is still there)as the battery has a big post for positive connection and the smaller size post is negative.

remove the wire that goes to the solenoid and spray paint it red.
this will prevent any possible mishaps in the future.

Yeah I do know better dug the wire out put some red shrink tube on the pos lead all good to go.
