I have been searching online and can't quite get an answer for what I am looking for. Please forgive me if this has been talked about or if it is just a dumb question.

Can you use a depth finder at the drivers seat, then unplug it and then plug it into a terminal at the bow? I would rather spend more money on one quality finder vs having two mediocre finders, one at the bow and one at the drivers seat. I do not have unlimited funds, so I am trying to get the most out of my money. I realize this would require a ten second change over to the bow... but I'm not fishing in the Classic or anything. Thanks for any advice.

Sure can, you just need to wire the FF so you can move the HU to the bow along with dragging the power/transducer cords to the front or get another power cord and wire it in up front, and get a transducer wire splitter so you still use the same transducer. Each brand has different ways of accomplishing this. If you get a large enough screen you could just get a RAM mount to mount at the console and then just turn the HU around so you could see it from the bow. This also depends on the size of boat you have.

Thanks for the info. I think I would just set up two terminals, with power and transducer wiring at each. Would unplugging the display and plugging it in again at the bow have any consequences when dealing with GPS units? I guess I would have to look into models more closely... I would assume the say newer lowrance units would be able to pick up where they left off with GPS mapping and waypoints?

It wouldn't affect your fishing. I tried this before. As soon as you get off plane, rip the ff off and then move it to the bow. By the time your all connected and turn the unit on it'll find itself again before you can even pick a rod out the locker.

For myself I just wired another power cord and put a separate transducer on my trolling motor.

Ram mounts are your friends.

Usually the first time you power up it takes longer to get the gps fix, then each time thereafter is quicker for most models. HB's can be very slow at times IMO getting a gps fix, sometimes it takes 5 minutes, for my 788 anyways.
