Can i run straight Rustoleum Oil Based paint through this type of gun?

https://www.harborfreight.com/professional-automotive-hvlp-spray-gun-kit-94572.html

My buddy let me use it, but the rusto seems really thick to be running through this...

Was considering diluting it with 5%-10% mineral spirits or some form of paint thinner....

Any suggestions?

You'll probably have to thin it down. I believe it says how to thin it on the label. More importantly, what size tip is in the spray gun? A 1.4 or 1.5 would be fine for painting. A bigger tip would work, but the finish may be rougher.

I would not spray it without thinning On the can it says to thin it no more than 5-10% I believe. You can use mineral spirits or acetone. I have used the same paint and thinned with acetone with good results

The 10% ratio is correct but thin it with a mix of 50% acetone and 50% mineral spirits.

The tip of the gun say " 1 4 "... so am hoping that is 1.4 and not 14

Can says acetone, but also found that like you mentioned mineral spirits work as well.

Not sure how to measure 5%-10% in that little canister, but will try to eyeball it and take the under.

Mix it in a clean glass jar.

Yes that is a 1.4 and should work fine. 14 would look about like the opening in a garden hose! As far as mixing, get the quart mixing cups from your local hardware store or auto body supply store. To thin 10%, pour 10 ounces of paint into the mixing cup and add 1 ounce of thinner. Pour through a strainer into the gun and you're ready to go.
