ive been thinking of buying a tracker grizzly 1448 or 1754 or ?
lots of choices .
then i stumbled across Alweld boats . I'm smitten with them.
they seem solid .and good reputation.
.....
we like to cruise the sac and osage rivers .. once in awhile we'll go out on the big lake.
we avoid the weekends with heavy boat traffic.
looking on th Alweld site they have standard flat bottom jons and semi v ..
for what i do with a boat.. would not a standard flat bottom be more stable than a semi v ?
and also better for nosing up on a sandbar . entry and exit from the bow be better ??

Too many factors to just say one is better than the other.

A 1436 john boat wont be as stable as a 1652 semi v. The width of the boat has more to do with it's stability.

A semi v will take waves and chop much better than a john or a mod v, but you lose some forward space, and usually the flat bottom, when compared to an equally sized semi v will be more stable.

thank you ..
kinda what i thought... i have an older polar kraft 1648 mod v .. its ok .. not the most stable of boats.
and yes .. pounds pretty good in a chop ... all i do is slow down .
I'm thinking the flat bottom . if its a little more open layout and somewhat more stable . that should work ok
for me.
I'll go with a 25/30 ? tiller steer this time..
just looking to upgrades and putt putt around.

spent alot of time .. trying to nail down some prices on a few brands..
why don't they list the prices ?
so far found a polar kraft 1648 rivit for 1800 $.
its just a simple flat bottom.

No doubt the flat bottom, when wider, is more stable. However, across a large lake, and I mean really large, a flat bottom can get a little choppy. Go with the biggest boat you need and can afford. Can't go wrong there.

looks like ..? maybe ?
I've got a line on a alweld flat bottom 1656
price is on the table.. still going back and forth.
i think the deal will work.. getting a little excited.
found a dealer to trade me motors..
looks likely a mercury 40 hp tiller.

almost there. :)
