I am going to look at a 1984 Suzuki DT85. The owner has it mounted on a boat and submerged in a large watering trough type tank. He will do a compression test and he has the title in hand. It has TNT and controls. What should I be looking for and what's it worth? Also what is involved with extending the controls? Owner says it has new water pump and vro removed so you can mix fuel/oil. He also did a carb job.

tell him not to start the motor before you get there, preferably for weeks ahead of time, a seller always likes to start and run the enging just before the buyer shows up, that way the engine always fires rite up. compression should all be within about 10 psi between the highest and the lowest , make sure it starts peeing water within about 15 - 30 seconeds after its started, , do not rev it up over 1500 rpms in neutrel, make sure it gos from rorward to reverse very smooth, take along a real fat flat head screwdriver and remove the lower unit drain plug BEFORE starting the motor and wipe it off and look at how mant steel slivers are stuck to the magnet... shouldnt look like more than a dirty Q-tip. also take along a multi meter and check the volts on the batery when stoped= 12 volts and when charging hope it will be arround 14 volts at 1500 rpms.
