I got a 12/24 67lb motor guide tm, It is a 5 speed non digital, On 5 in 12 volt it will run different rpms, stop, then restart etc, dont notice it as much in 24 volt but does still do it, the ground wire is getting hot, melted my black tape over my solder unions, anyhow i am thinking it needs new brushes, anyone else care to share? I hate to spend the money on parts i dont need..

does your motor cut out on any other setting?
if not it may be your solder joint failing when it heats up it looses connection when it cools it comes back.
I would try to redo the joints first and give it a try..
I get at least 3 calls a week at work that people loose partial power due to a bad or overheated connection

Yes, it is similar on all settings. I was just down getting the model number of it, it did it right off the bat cool.

no I work for the local power company.. if it is doing it cold they MAY not be the problem at some point the joint will fault and be hit or miss. if you can redo the solder joints i would try that before spending money

Ill redo them today, it is only heating the ground wire, I was thinking it was just trying to draw to many amps. But ill resolder them and give it a try.. Thank you.

My father in laws boat had a 12/24 trolling motor, it was cutting out and come to fine out the connection in the plug was bad and getting hot and loosing connection. I would check it first.

Well, i went and got some high quality connectors and shrink tube, soldered it together, and it still does it, Any suggestions, I am guessing the brushes are hammered..

Yes, I just pulled it apart and the brushes were cooked, Got some new parts shipped to my door for 40.00 from the ga technician, I have bought from him before. anyhow he told me how to re assemble it and everything.. Sending the commutator out tomorrow to get the brush surface cleaned up on the lathe...

Pics, we like pics!!

My buddys friend has a lathe, so we ventured over there and cleaned the comutator, to dark for a pic tonight tho..
