Anyone have a 1980 25 35hp service manual that can tell me the torque specs?

Torque specs for what?????
I did my best to read your mind but that tin foil hat you obviously had on when you wrote your generic post must have blocked my ability......

Love it when guys who know better write posts that have no information in them!!

Powerhead torque specs...my manual(for my 1980 25 johnson) that i cant find listed the torque specs in relation to the bolt size ( example...7/16 200in lbs- 3/8 100in lbs) if i remember right...im reassembling a 81 25hp evinrude and assume the specs from my 1980 manual will work on the 1981 rude.. So end caps, crankcase, head and head cover is what im most concerned with and would like..

I can look it up if you need me to but in general........
1/4-20 screws are normally torqued to 5-7#
5/16-18 screws are normally torqued to 10-12#
I believe you have those in your powerhead assembly

I have 5/16-3/8-7/16 and the head bolts are 1/2 inch. I was always lead to beleive to use inch lbs instead of ft lbs because you were more apt to over torque with ft-lbs and strip the aluminum threads. If you could look them up for me that would be helpful and id really appreceiate it. Oh and the small screws(flatheads) on the mag plate and theres bolts with phillips heads on the skeg...but if you cant no worries i will keep looking for my service manual.

I apoligize i thought year and hp would be enough info.

when you are telling me you have 5/16, 3/8. 7/16, ... and then 1/2 bolts for head bolts you are only telling me what the wrench size is for those bolts.
For example...........
your 1/2" head bolt is actually a 5/16" bolt but In the case of a head bolt the torque on that particular bolt is 18-20#....always go on the low side.
These days there are all kinds of specialty fasteners but in general ......

a 7/16 wrench normally fits on a 1/4" bolt.
1/2" wrench normally fits on a 5/16" bolt.
a 9/16" wrench normally fits on a 3/8" bolt.
You get the idea.
Usually you can add 3/16" to the bolt size and know your wrench size.

Anything under the flywheel always gets a coat of Loctite. The flathead screws get tightened with no torque spec.
The phillips on the gearcase is the one that holds the shift mechanism? Again, no specific torque that I know of but a new seal every time and gasket sealing compound on the threads and seal.

Yes the yoke that holds the cradle for the dog is phillips as you see here along with the skeg bolts also being phillips. And thank you very much for the insight on the bolt sizes and bolt heads.. Alsi you saud before to lube the plastic ring (bearing they call it but idk why) on the retainer under the flywheel is lubed with 50:1 lube? Like the oil i mix in my fuel? 1217201410a.jpg
