So, I just got my first fishfinder and am really excited. I have a question though whether to mount the transducer on the front with the trolling motor(which is where I will be doing most of my fishing and where the unit will be located) or on the back on the transom(which is actually more convenient as there is already a mount for the transducer).

I would love to mount it on the transom but, since I'll be fishing from the front and the unit will be on the front, I have no idea if there is going to be some kind of delay on the screen???

Any thoughts..

Thanks, Ben

no, there will not be any delay in what you see on the screen if mounted on the transom.. If you have a big motor (gas one) that you'll be using then you won't be able to use the DF/FF if you mount the ducer on the TM as you have to raise the TM when using the gas motor. If the TM is the only mode of power, then it would depend on your preference. which way will you face when you are fishing from the front of the boat, does the FF have a swivel mount? It wouldn't be hard to mount on the transom, try it and see if it works for you, if not, then fairly easy to move, if you have easy access to the wiring, etc.

Hey elwaynum1 mate if ur sounder cant swivel the 180 degrees so u can see it from the driving and the fishing postion u could mount the sounder on to a RAM mount that way it can turn any which way u want and i find them to be as solid as a rock. As for mounting ur transducer personally id mount it on the transom as u know this will always be in the water and its definatly handy to know ur depth when traveling at speed in unfamiliar water as rock bars have a habit of turning up where there not wanted
