When I am running my motor, the transducer does not work unless I am going extremely slow. It is mounted on the transom of the boat on the outside. Any suggestions how to get rid of this problem?

The unit will read that I am in 0ft of water, but when I slow, it gives the actual reading.

You may have the transducer TOO close to the motor.Too much turbulence may be the problem.Or it may be mounted too high on the transom.Do you have the owners manual for the finder? It will have optimun mounting position illustrated within.Just my thoughts.

also check the angle at which the transducer if facing down.. it should be facing just a little lower than parallel with the bottom of your boat

What he said.

It needs to be a certain distance away from the motor and it will not read correctly if it is directly behind one of the strakes. That being said, a whole lot of jon boats just put out too much turbulence for a transducer to pick up at any speed regardless of where it is mounted.

It may be mounted too high. On my Humminbird, the bottom half of the transducer is supposed to be in the water at full speed. If it is not in the water there is no reading on the screen. If you mount it too low it will throw a tremendous rooster tail.
