I suggest a MinnKota Edge or a MotorGuide X3 in a 45-55lbs of thrust with no more than a 45in shaft. I suggest these motors because they have dual cable steering & composite shafts. The cheaper line of MotorGuide have rack & pinion steering with aluminum shafts which are more likely to break a steering cable or bend a shaft. The electric steer models of both brands are good but tend to be a bit more expensive than the cable steer models. If sticker shock  gets you here's some info on when trolling motors were starting to be made better & stronger. Starting in 1995 MinnKota only had dual cable steering along with composite shafts, the MotorGuide Brute models of that same era had Stainless Steel shafts in the 45lb+ thrust range but only had rack & pinion steering. You never know you might just find a nice used trolling motor for a lot less than a new one. I hope this will help you out with your decision making. Good luck to you from ccm.
