I will be using self etching primer on the bare spots of my previously painted aluminum boat. Can I use regular RustOleum primer over the self etching primer after it dries? Is RustOleum Aluminum primer the same as self etching primer?

Thanks for all your help!

yeah the rustoleum brand is called self etching primer, so you just need to use that, you won't need additional primer over the self etching primer.

Not necessarily.

Make sure it specifically says "self etching" on the can.

I use this stuff, and it works awesome! You only need a LIGHT coat of the primer over bare metal before painting ... it covers really really well.

Thanks for all the help. I do have the "Self-etching" primer by Rustoleum. Interestingly, the only place that carries it in Topeka, Kansas is Walmart. Also, it is in the auto section and not the paint section of the store.
