Would a 15 HP upgrade help my situation?

Thanks guys. How do these manual tilt assist things work? Some sort of pneumatic piston?

Would a 15 HP upgrade help my situation?

A year ago here on TinBoats, I "blogged" the entire process of modding of my bare bones Mirrocraft 14' mod vee, and a year later I can tell you I love the setup...it's been great. If there's one slight wrinkle, it's probably the Nissan 9.8 outboard. It runs like butter, starts second pull...

My new jon boat, step by step...

Possibly, but there's another gotcha. The hull slopes up toward the bow, so it's doubtful there'd even be enough depth under the casting deck. I'm with you on that, though, that'd be great if it had been doable!

My new jon boat, step by step...

Would've loved to put the battery under, but it would have required cutting a gaping hole. There's just a small stow-hole in the middle for life jackets.

My new jon boat, step by step...

I have pretty much wrapped up the project now. All the accessories are attached/mounted, etc. Final checklist... To bare bones Mirrocraft boat...added, Trolling motor with foot control 9.8 hp Nissan outboard Anchor light Nav light Bilge pump Switch panel Wiring, with painted PVC conduit...

    New Boat Owner

Clever! I'll bet it feels pretty solid, with the foam underneath it to support it. Never ceases to amaze me the things people come up with on this site.

Rod Holders: How Do I Mount on This Boat?

I need to mount a rod holder on the side of my jon boat near the location where I sit, but am wondering about the best approach to take and type of holder to use. As shown in the picture, this is a 1448 with sides that flare out at an angle and a gunnel that is barrel-shaped (rounded). Would...

Something to cushion the dock poles...

Thought about that, yes! Or maybe a combination of the two suggestions. PVC or ABS pipe with a pool noodle inside for shock absorbtion. Regarding pool noodles, has anyone come across any that actually have a hole inside them that's big enough? Most I see online look like the hole isn't...

Something to cushion the dock poles...

I need something inexpensive I can put around my dock poles that will provide some padding for when boats rub against them. I've see things like this: https://www.acrytekplastics.com/bumpers/roundpostbumper.php ...and that would be great, but I'll be darned if I'm going to spend that kind of...

How to? Numbers on a riveted hull...

Yep, that's what I meant, the vinyl letters/numbers. Good advice. We're doing just that, thanks.

How to? Numbers on a riveted hull...

I'm about to put my plastic peel-off numbers on my aluminum jon boat, and it looks to me like the area where the numbers need to go is riddled with rivets. Anybody found a solution to that? Do you wind up having to put a plate on the hull first and stick the letters to that? Otherwise I have...

My new jon boat, step by step...

Day 16 Hey, those rivet nuts someone suggested are really neat. I bought the little kit that comes with tool and nuts from Harbor Freight, and they worked great for putting bolts into the aluminum floor for mounting the battery anchor. The aluminum riser we had made at a local shop (for...
