Hi, i have a 1972 duranautic 14, side console. It has a 1974 Evinrude 25 electric start. This is new to me. The boat is in great shapeand I hoped to put a 20 hp yamaha on it, as it turns out the transom is 25”( ?), i can now see the evinrude has a 5 “ extension kit on the shaft. So, can I cut down the transom 5”? It looks straight forward, would need tobend the aluminium trim to a curve. Not concerned with resale. Thanks

Welcome to Tin Boats!

I'm surprised a 14' boat has a 25" transom, but that doesn't solve your problem.

You might get some responses if you post some pic's so folks can see what you are dealing with.

You may want to measure that transom again. I have 1978 14' Duranautic Offshore with a similar straight transom.
Its 21" & needs a long shaft outboard. Its a great little boat & I definitely would not cut the transom if I were you.

Exactly, I'd like to see a pic with a ruler on it.

The boat is 20” transom. I was way wrong. Spent time Saturday looking it over and getting used to it. I was confused by the controls, thought I had bad throttle cable, realized it just doesn’t have that much travel. It needed a prop shaft drive pin. 1972 boat , ‘74 evinrude 25, replace gear oil and launched. Not used since 2018, idles and runs great. I can use this motor this season even though the plan was to swap 2011 Yamaha 20 hp. So no butchering the transom, which was a panic idea! Thanks to all that respo
