    Finally, some fish!

Spotted sea trout. https://www.marinefishesofgeorgia.org/popular-sport-fish/spotted-seatrout.html They have really soft mouths, and don't put up much of a fight. They are really delicious. They are apparently plentiful here. The limit is 15 fish, 14" minimum.

    Finally, some fish!

Heh... sorry, the Wilmington River we fish is in Savannah, Georgia. It runs 17.3 miles from the Savannah River to Wassaw Sound, passing by a half dozen islands on the way to the Atlantic. This is the river on the map: https://goo.gl/maps/Yb9dPfAiJYN2 And these are the creeks we were fishing...

    Finally, some fish!

For the last three or four weekends, my wife and I have been up at sunrise to fish. We haven't had much luck-- just one or two fish per day at the most. Practically everyone we see, from people standing on docks to people on other boats, asks the same question: Catch any trout? After today, I...

    $#%£¥ !!! ... this time of year

Same here. Summers here can be miserable. In the winter, it is usually in the 60s and 70s during the day. It has only snowed twice in the 16 years we've been here, and it disappeared immediately. Since they have been keeping records, it has never hit 0 degrees here. That is much better than our...

    Inexpensive DIY Pole Anchor

My fiberglass pole is 3/4" in diameter. Most of the pool noodles I found had 1" diameter holes. I ended up finding pool noodles with 3/4" diameter holes at the Dollar Tree, if you have one of those in your area.

Transom height above ground when on trailer

I am positive that this was all sold originally as a package, although that is 25 years and several owners in the past. The sticker on the trailer says 8" tires. Someone put 12" tires on it, which is almost certainly why the fenders were removed. There would be plenty of clearance between the...

    Battery Size

Interesting, thanks. My new 29DC is 12.7 when charged. I'll have to see what the voltage is after I use it tomorrow (weather permitting).

    Battery Size

I wish Walmart would post better specifications for their batteries. Their website doesn't match their battfinder.com website, which doesn't match the actual batteries. Inconsistent information, too. For the 24MS, battfinder.com says "Not designed for trolling," which is nowhere to be found on...

Transom height above ground when on trailer

Thanks guys! So I gather that 27 inches between the transom and ground isn't necessarily bad. But, also that I can go as low as I want, within reason, provided I have enough clearance for the motor. Unfortunately, my hitch is a light duty 1-1/4" class I. I originally bought it for my bike rack...

Transom height above ground when on trailer

My situation is a bit tricky, since I tow with a car. I don't have a lot of tongue height. I have explored all options to raise the height of the hitch ball, and short of a new vehicle, there is really nothing out there. I plan on getting a truck, but a car is what I have to work with for now...

Transom height above ground when on trailer

My boat's transom is over 27 inches off the ground when it is on the trailer. I'm pretty sure that is too high, and I bet it makes launching my boat more difficult than it needs to be. Is there a recommended distance between the transom and ground when a boat is sitting on the trailer? After...

    Battery Size

Where are you buying batteries that a group 27 is almost twice as expensive as a group 24? I just shopped for batteries. I didn't see anything like that. For example, at Walmart, the Everstart 24DC is $74.88, the 27DC is $81.67, and the 29DC is $86.83.

    Inexpensive DIY Pole Anchor

After two weekends of wind, I finally got to test it out. It worked very well. My wife and I hit the water at sunrise. We headed up a little creek, and fished with artificials on the falling tide on the way back. We then fished the rising tide up a different creek. When the water activity...

Avoid battery core charge at Wal-mart

Yep. No core charge was added when I checked out online. No mention of it when I picked it up.

Avoid battery core charge at Wal-mart

I just wanted to let you guys know that I accidentally stumbled upon a way to purchase batteries from Wal-mart without paying a core charge, or turning in an old battery. While shopping for a battery, I decided to go with one from either Wal-mart, or Sams, mainly so I could exchange it easily...

A lot of people are putting batteries in sealed boxes.......

I didn't think there would be a problem with the battery boxes in boats, but what do I know... heh! You never know if something is good for cars, RVs, and solar setups, but not boats. :)

A lot of people are putting batteries in sealed boxes.......

I'm buying a new battery tomorrow, and plan on putting it in one of these, and strapping it to the floor of my boat: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004W5SGBO I will store and charge it in my utility room, avoiding the direct sunlight of my back yard. Any problems using a battery box like...

Any use for long shaft 15hp outboard?

Aluminum boats that take a long shaft motor are out there, for sure. My boat has a 20-inch transom, and uses a long shaft motor. It's a Grumman MV1449. 1992 model, I think.

    1999 Saturn SL1 question...

I've never owned one, but my neighbor across the street has had one for the past 4-5 years. I think it might be a 97 of 98 model that his son gave him. Anyway, it's an okay car, but being mostly plastic, it is really showing its age. Broken trim pieces, plastic body pieces hanging from under...

    Inexpensive DIY Pole Anchor

Sorry, yes-- 8ft. I wanted the 10ft one, but wasn't about to spend $100+ on shipping. A company called Max-Gain Systems sells a coupler, but their prices are way out of line with what I think they are worth. No way will I pay $37 to connect two poles together. I didn't get to try my anchor...
