Cover for 1953 Lyman outboard 16'

This cover would be more of a dust cover than anything else. Airshot....That cover is sort of whats on it at the moment. Super heavy cotton, and duck brown in color but full of holes now. This does not have to be custom.....was thinking more along the lines of a jon boat cover? Been a long...

Cover for 1953 Lyman outboard 16'

Happy New Year! Am looking for a decent cover but trying to keep costs down for Lesa's 1953 wooden Lyman with an outboard on it. It is kept inside. V-shaped bow and no windshield on it. I know there are folks in here that are well versed in covers! Thanks in advance.

1956 Evinrude Lark 30 HP Tear down

Just clean the air silencer to make sure there is no debris in it. The starter is easily serviced. There are probably NOS brush sets out there still as well. Mark the case with a couple lines to keep the parts lined up. Mineral spirits for cleaning. There is kind of a trick to keep the brushes...

    '86 Mercury 35HP 2-stroke compression

Fish tank aggregate is fantastic for that. Just have to make sure it is the 'real" stuff....ask me how I know.

    '86 Mercury 35HP 2-stroke compression

Just a question....why are you replacing the metal tank? Those are great tanks and are becoming sought after? Unless it is rusted out on the bottom either inside or out I would run it.

Asking too much from a 9.8 Evinrude?

Had asked for a model number on this. Looked up the 9.8 and found the specs on it. The engine is only 209CC and has an operating range of 5-6000RPM. The only propeller I saw for it was a 7p. With this small displacement and the onboard load plus the fact the boat is a V-bottom it is very...

Asking too much from a 9.8 Evinrude?

What is the model number of your engine? Lets see what prop that came with and what is available.

    More Fun!!! Bent Prop Shaft

Submit to your insurance. At that low speed it is more than likely that there is no gear damage inside the Lower unit. That being said just about every single piece has to be removed to get it out and replace it. Go to an authorized dealer with a good local reputation and have them work with...

    '86 Mercury 35HP 2-stroke compression

Well said....the only thing I would add is that since the engine is a 1986 it is easily time to replace all fuel lines under the hood when the carb is disassembled and cleaned as per above instructions. Do no short cut on a 2 stroke carb.

    '86 Mercury 35HP 2-stroke compression

Compression wise the engine is okay. Not enough difference to worry about, however, it may be best to tell us what you took the engine in for to begin with. Also, first and foremost......WELCOME to the forum!

5 hp outboard use for trolling

LOL hell, my bow mount trolling motor is 15' forward of my outboard on my Gheenoe. Can see myself running back and forth to steer! guess I am old fashioned. I sit in the back with a rod out both sides and relax. Get a hit? Put the engine in neutral and see whats on the other end of the line.

5 hp outboard use for trolling

I have used twin cylinder Johnson or Evinrude 3 hp and 5 1/2hp engines on my Gheenoe and had to throttle up to start getting hits while trolling. Educated guess will be that you should be fine using it. Happy Thanksgiving to you as well!

    Reviving 1982 merc 40hp

You are on the right track! Put a bit of 2 cycle oil in the cylinders and turn it over. Check compression. Change gear lube./Do your pump. When looking at the pump check for deep scratches in the cup. Anything you can hang a fingernail in ?..... Change the cup or liner. Clean and rebuild the...

    '78 Johnson 25 frustrations

Are there black marks inside your impeller cup? Will the cup come out of the plastic housing or is it mellted in there? Take a good look before installing another impeller as those blades look burned to me.

    '78 Johnson 25 frustrations

And maybe you should do some measuring and let me know that the pump is down that low on "most motors". Go ahead and check any 18-25hp engine such as this one first. Please do not get butt hurt about this. We are only looking for folks to get in the habit of writing good, accurate and repeatable...
