Trolling Motor Selection - Volts, Thrust, and Shaft length

I wonder if Minn Kota has fixed this since your experience? I don't have this problem at all with my Ulterra which is a late '19 build and apparently the latest build and software. I will stay on spot lock for hours on end if I find a good spot for ground fishing haddock, fluke, bluefish, sea...

Trolling Motor Selection - Volts, Thrust, and Shaft length

I never heard that about overpowering the boat but I suppose I believe it. I went 36v and 112# thrust for the added runtime but my boat is big and heavy. I'm not super electrical savvy but as I understood the 36v will give you extended run times even when using the equivalent amp hours for a 24v...

    $1000 Question - Helix 9 vs Helix 7

Beautiful boat there. Exactly what I'd like to get into some day. Pretty much perfect!

    Electronics, Fishing, and Trolling Motors

Oh no, that's not correct. You can buy plenty of units without any imaging but you have to stay below the 7" screen size. If you want like a 10", which is the smallest I'd personally buy, you have to get at least a down imaging unit.

    Electronics, Fishing, and Trolling Motors

Garmin latest Panoptix's transducer will image clearly up to 200 feet away from the transducer. I'd love to get it for ice fishing but I can't justify the cost. Some coldwater trolling guys say side imaging is good for trolling early season because the salmon and trout are way up high and the...

    Electronics, Fishing, and Trolling Motors

What you are talking about is called live imaging. Think of it as an actual picture (or video as it is) of what is going on under the water. The transducers are directional and can show you exactly how far away a fish is. It is so detailed sometimes you can actually determine species of fish on...

    Increase top speed?

Yeah, when I take off my hydrofoil from my 25hp the top speed of the boat goes up by about 4 mph. Of course it takes much longer to plane. More drag with the foil that's for sure.

    Old Gas

I'm with you airshot, I've been mandated to use E10 fuel for well over 25 years here in NH, I haven't had a problem even in antique motorcycles. What's making me laugh however is all you in warm states!! Here in NH my snowmobile sits for easily 7 or 8 months with gas in it and my boat sits for...

To Restore or Not to Restore…

My buddy bought a new trailer for her older boat and it was a nightmare. The company she worked with, which does nothing other than sell trailers, couldn't get it right. It took months of waiting and two different trailers to get it so it actually fit her boat. Lost half of last year dealing...

Which 6 hp outboard to purchase?

I believe I've done all that, but my ears are open, so let me in your secrets. It's a 3800 lb boat so not sure what I can do about boat setup. Not really any way around it being a big cc, one lung 4 stroke. Don't get me wrong, I love the motor, it runs flawless, but after what is likely a few...

Which 6 hp outboard to purchase?

I highly suggest bumping to an 8hp if at all possible. Reason being, every single 4 stroke motor made that is smaller than 8hp is a single cylinder. I have a 6hp Merc longshaft that is my kicker motor for trolling. It runs for hundreds upon hundreds of hours a season. It's been great and is...

    Well, Now I did it!

They all move water when running but some don't indicate until the thermostats open. My Merc 150 takes a good 60-90 seconds before it starts peeing. I change my t-stats every other year just like my impeller.

NOCO Battery Jump Starter - Any Good?

What's your SxS? My 2019 Ski-Doo snowmobile has a 900 fuel injected turbo and I can rope start it with a dead battery. Maybe they make the sleds able to do this because you can die if you can't start the machine in 30 below.

NOCO Battery Jump Starter - Any Good?

Do new 4 stroke boat motors not come with emergency pull ropes under the cowl anymore like the old 2 strokes? I used to carry a jump pack on my snowmobile, a NOCO GB40 in fact, because I thought I couldn't pull start my fuel injected, 900 triple 4 stroke sled with a dead battery. Turns out I was...

Why the lake doesn't give people back

You ever try peppermint oil? I have heard that does a good job. I don't think I want to throw soap in the lockers of my boat, it'll be a mess when I take the boat out of storage.

    Roller trailer setup

I was always under the impression that aluminum boats should always use bunk trailers but I may certainly be wrong.

Why the lake doesn't give people back

I go to war with these liitle *******s every year. You want to take it to the next level? Gummy bears and stainless steel bailing wire. I cut a sliver of gummy bear and wire it to the bait tang. One gummy bear can bait like 3 traps. Will catch mice all year without having to rebait. I catch what...

    Inflatable Life Jacket Storage

Years ago I had one go off in the back seat of my truck when it got real hot and humid in there. Since then my self-inflatable lives in a special bag that I call the "day" bag that comes on and off the boat as I do and does not stay in the truck for any long amount of time.

Yeah, gotta make use of what you can. Tractor, house, build a massive tripod, engine hoist... or 3 men and a small boy.
