    Trolling motor

Believe it or not, a second trolling motor of similar or less thrust probably will slow you down. This was my experience when I had my square back canoe. I had two 40lb transom mount trolling motors (one was on my jon boat) and decided to install them both on the canoe for a fun experiment...

    Bent prop shaft

The thing is, it wasn't even a good deal. This guy charged top dollar for what would be a good running boat. But it's buyer beware! If you don't know what you are buying, make sure to bring a friend that does!

    Method of freshwater washdown

Anytime I take my tin to the salt (which is quite often) I just bring it home and spray the whole boat down with the hose. The water runs under the floor and into the bilge and should do the trick. Like Dale said, the rain takes care of most of it. If I did happen to take on a bunch of saltwater...

    Bent prop shaft

Well, ordered up a brand new OEM prop shaft to the tune of $362. Also a seal kit and a bunch of other parts. She needed remote control cables, a new zinc trim tab, a new prop and some fluids and $750+ and a whole bunch of my labor and she is back in business. Buyer beware and if you don't know...

    Bent prop shaft

Apparently 3/4" out is too much to cold straighten. I know the Mercury OEM one is like $800, but a Sierra is like $200. Only have to see what is actually available.

    Transom saver

Yep, that's my philosophy. As long as the skeg is a few inches higher up than the axle, you are good to go. I never towed my 14 foot Starcraft with a transom saver. My big Sylvan however needs one as the skeg at full down can almost touch the ground.

Northshore MA - Engine Tune Up / Repower

A buddy of mine just bought a boat and it needs work, she called just about every place here in NH and they are all booking out to mid June. And some places won't even give a timeframe. I know that isn't promising just letting you know our experience.

    Pondering trolling motor battery selection

Nice choice, I had a great purchase experience with Amped Outdoors when I built my battery box for camping.

    Bent prop shaft

Has anyone dealt with one before? Backstory: A good buddy of mine who is an avid female fisherman got taken pretty hard buying her first boat, a 1996 Spectrum 14' side console with a 25hp Merc on a trailer. Now I am not happy since she did not have me come with her to inspect the boat before...

Wearing an 'Ignition Kill Lanyard' now MANDATORY on 'newer' boats < 26'

Probably just a different mindset in general. Here in NH, Fish and Game is pretty blatant about it being a cash grab about a lot of things. They are constantly complaining about hurting for money yet if you are in the outdoors for any length of time- you will see "the green ghost" as he is...

Wearing an 'Ignition Kill Lanyard' now MANDATORY on 'newer' boats < 26'

Oh wow, that surprising how different it is there. I get checked at least 2 or 3 times a season depending on how much ice fishing I do over the winter. They are out on sleds all the time and it's real easy to check a bunch of people in a day on the ice.

Although lithium is a metal, do not treat a fire involving a small number of lithium batteries as a Class D fire.

In Europe they have developed a way to fight fires in electric automobiles equipped with lithium batteries that basically consists of submerging the entire vehicle in water.

Wearing an 'Ignition Kill Lanyard' now MANDATORY on 'newer' boats < 26'

I can see this being a good idea. I've been on a small vessel that we were thrown from while the tiller was at full tilt. Very old Evinrude that didn't have a working return spring for the throttle. Boat was wrangled by some very daring jetski cowboys. My 21' very deep V Sylvan Profish I...

adding a bow mounted trolling motor

My Starcraft was originally a MA Environmental Police boat and they had installed a trolling motor using an old aluminum road sign as a makeshift foredeck.

    Boat Floor Question

As said above, and as I learned myself last year, marine ply is nothing more than good plywood that has less voids within the structure. It's not treated with anything to resist the weather. If you use good quality exterior grade plywood and completely seal it- both sides and all edges- it...

That's what they call a first world problem.

    Foam matress

I am less than impressed with my Sleep Number bed. It's ok but not worth the cost of them. I found out my sleep number is 100. I would have liked it if it went to 120.

Well, this was kind of sudden

Nope, don't approve, not one bit. The only ArrVee that I find acceptable is one that allows you to tow a boat behind it. WHAT IS THE POINT OF CAMPING IF YOU DON'T FISH????

    How many HP

I'm with the above, max hp for the motor. For trolling highly recommend a GPS enabled trolling motor. Nothing has improved my trout and salmon trolling success more than my Minn Kota Ulterra. Autopilot!! You can actually catch fish instead of drive. Mind blowing.
