Although lithium is a metal, do not treat a fire involving a small number of lithium batteries as a Class D fire.

I personally think the newer lithium batteries are much safer, but there is difference in how to fight a fire, and knowledge helps.

Ran across this FAA document when I was researching if my boat fire extinguisher would work on Lithium battery fires.

Looks like from the PDF you would use the fire extinguisher to knock down the flame then sink the boat.

In Europe they have developed a way to fight fires in electric automobiles equipped with lithium batteries that basically consists of submerging the entire vehicle in water. :lol:

Don't breathe in the fumes/smoke! Magnesium and Manganese are also just as hazardous to your well being. :shock:
