Gas struts on the lids, as well as locking slam latches. However, they are cheap. The locking feature is to keep an opportunistic thief at bay.

Finished product, for now. The boat is a Lowe 1467uv. Framed with 2x2’s, lids are 1/2”. It’s not pretty.

Not sure about the cost of the above red “channel or strut”, however, that’s what it is. Look at Home Depot, Lowes, Menards, grainger or your local electrical supplier. Get some scrap pieces of aluminum extruded strut/channel. Put a strut nut in it, with the threads you need...

I have used some vinyl from Cabela’s. Great stuff. It was even an exact match to the existing vinyl, of - at the time, 8 year old boat I had.
