Removed the stock 21 gallon fuel tank. Replacing with a 6 gallon tank. For 3 reasons - 1. I now have a 25hp on the boat, had a 50hp. 2. To reduce weight. 3. Put all three batteries in rear of boat. Two for the trolling motor, one for crank and accessories.
I have enough weight on the bow.
How...
Hot hands hand warmers, in your boots, and gloves. Brown Jersey gloves, with exam gloves over them. If it's windy, rain gear, blocks the wind.
If possible, fish with someone else.
Most important, wear that PFD!
Make the new access hatch as big as possible, you'll be happier later. Will also make it easier to put water in the batteries.
By the way, I'm liking your build!
How did the 10 HP do with the batteries up front? Planing out?
WOW! After reading this, I'm now trolling adds for an edge! Have a motorguide 75# 5 speed on a 17' g3, same problems with speed.
I bought a two blade prop, that slowed it down from the 3 blade that it came with.
Talked to a trolling motor guy, said it would cost $400 to make it variable speed...
Not sure what forum this belongs in.
Boat is a 04 g3 1756. Running a 24v 75# tm. Stock are two battery trays by transom. With two 27 series tm batts in those trays, the boat feels like it wants to get swamped when coming off plane. Even worse with two people in boat. Had the start battery up...
Didn't think of gutter upside down, good thought. I ripped a 4*4 pvc post sleeve in half lengthwise. Put them on the 2*4 bunks instead of carpet. I think I borrowed the idea from this site. The boat has yet to slide off the trailer when backing down the ramp.
Any update to adding a spring?
I have a g3 boat. Called both g3 and a local dealer. They both said the same thing, the objective is to keep the engine from moving. How you go about it, is up to you.
Answer to seat question: I did what you talked about, putting seat in base while underway. Had no problems. Just make sure it stays below the gunwale. Felt secure to me. My guess for the low speed rating is manufacturers insurance.
Have had the boat a year now, time to modify! Wanted to use aluminum, cant afford it though. Cut a hole in the front deck, cored out some foam. Can put a 7' rod in the new locker, lid will oen in. Did not make lid go to side of boat, that way no rods need to be moved when lid is openend...
I like what you did. Is that 3/4 plywood you used? The idea of one big lid is appealing. Any problems with it warping? Leaning towards rod locker on side, cut into deck, core out foam for rod tips. Storage, batt's under deck extension. Thank you for supplying your pics, helpful.
I have a g3 1756. Wanting ideas on adding a rod locker and storage areas. Also thinking of moving the batteries forward. Rod locker on the side? Center? If in the center i might be able to utilize the forward storage area for the rod tips. Distance from rear deck to front deck is 89".
