    Foam Replacement

My boat certainly did not have enough foam to keep her afloat.

    Foam Replacement

Ok, got my back side and goter done. Here are some pics for my fellow couch potatoes. Here’s the mucky mush foam. There wasn’t that much floatation, maybe a cubic foot on each side between the stringer and gunnel. Aluminum look good for the most part. There was no floatation foam...

Time to quit contemplating, will go pull the deck right now.

    Foam Replacement

I was thinking of that but, I expect it would eventually absorb water just like the pour in stuff. Also, leaving some gaps might promote drainage. Like Davidj65 said, it could be tough getting enough sheet foam cramped in there.

I doubt if the i-Pilot hardware is damaged. Nice fish!

Check the schematic for the motor. Look for a fusible link or thermal switch. If that checks out Ok test the motor windings. They should not be open, maybe a few ohms 0.5 to 5 ohms but, that’s just a guess. If you have a gas kicker motor you can use the kicker to almost hold the position or...

    Foam Replacement

That would probably be Ok then. I think I’ll just stick with the gorilla glue and try to cut to fit. A few gaps at the hull should allow water flow. The only thing with me is one thing leads to another. Next thing you know I’ll be pulling the gas tank to clean it out. Then welding...

    Foam Replacement

Thought I read that Thill does this. I was thinking the same thing about the stuff eating the aluminum. No ribs that I’m aware of in this boat. Maybe I’ll find some after removal of the entire deck. It has a 0.190” thick hull and transom with 0.125” thick gunnels. There are two runners on...

    Foam Replacement

Yep, that’s what I’m reading. Even the Total Boat brand says it will eventually absorb water. I’m not looking forward to a bunch of foam sheet cutting but, it looks like the best option so far. I guess my only concern with foam sheets is that the deck is supporting all of the floatation once...

    Foam Replacement

I recently shifted boat projects from the little Jon build to rigging out a new to me North River Mariner. It’s a very solid boat but, it feels heavier than it should be. So I pulled up the port side strip of decking the other day and as expected the foam is completely saturated. I wasn’t...

    Electrical issue question

I wouldn’t hesitate to name the manufacturer if saw this type of poor workmanship. This kind of bs deserves some bad reviews.

    Electrical issue question

I’m trying to get the new to North River Mariner on the water by mid June for vacation. The factory wiring is mostly undisturbed but, the previous owner’s wiring is a real sh#t show. The highlight was two runs of 14 AGM solid THHN wire from the reserve battery and main battery to the...

    Electrical issue question

It just proves that at least half of the advice on the internet is provided by people that don’t know what they are talking about.

    Electrical issue question

Rewire your switch to the positive but double check that your electronics are wired with the correct polarity before powering up.

Is this normal amount of water from these ports?

Looks like two girls peeing! There are usually one or two small holes maybe an 1/8th to 3/16” of an inch. If these small ports are missing I could see it dumping this amount of water. Maybe this motor has big ports. I’m referring to the original OP video. Not the Crazyboat video that looks...

Lithium battery - worth the expense?

I wouldn’t make a habit of it. Most Lithium batteries are not designed to start an outboard due to the high surge current. In the same situation I would try to jumper the AGM for a few minutes, remove the jumpers and then start the OB off of the AGM.

Lithium battery - worth the expense?

The government imposes tariffs when US manufacturers are uncompetitive at something. They use words like unfair trade practices. At the end of the day it’s just tax on the US consumer. China has plenty of other markets outside of the US and they will adapt quickly. We’ll probably start...
