Well the restoration of this "barn find" (actually wasn't discovered in a barn) 1950 model year Alumacraft model E 12' footer I discovered languishing away in Wisconsin last June is now complete. First fishing trip in the new old boat is behind us and all went really well. For power I put a 1962 Johnson 5 1/2 hp on the boat which had been sitting covered up in a garage for 40+ years. The motor although un used for all those years was well cared for in storage so with minimum work.......(new water pump kit, new fuel lines, new lower unit flush and lube, new spark plugs, etc) it started and ran like a motor should........great. Boat was stripped, wood transom redone (I used the inner transom board after restoring it) and cut white oak for the outer transom. The boat was pressured cleaned, wire brushed completely, wiped down and sprayed with a solid coat on non thinned green Zinc Chromate. All put back together it was set on top of a brand new galvanized trailer, the oars refinished, decaled up and launched for her first trip after many years on neglect........oh and as you can tell........she moved to Florida! Loves the year round boating and fishing weather here! )
