This would not be a bad idea if you got any small streams nearby, and considering it is OK to do so(might want to check with the laws). Plus could actually save you money in the long run, and give you something to do in the mean-time. :)

Does that little nub(where the red arrow is pointing)...is that one entire piece, or an individual one? If you have a good exploded view of the reel, if you look at it close enough you should be able to track down if all the pieces are there or not?

Yeah, My laptop came with Vista(64 bit version....which i've heard is supposed to be abit better as far as problems) and I haven't really had any "problems" out of it, however my last computer ran on XP which I did prefer over Vista.

I seriously doubt it. They are designed to be ran through a 12v source. Even if you could get one to run, I don't think it would run very long before killing those AA's.
