    Early 80s 40EL Mariner power tilt/trim

I too think your best option is to go aftermarket, CMC or Panther Marine, where nowadays I believe Panther has the better reputation ‘for reliability’. It’s too bad, as years ago I had a CMC T/T on a FAST fly fishing rig I had outfitted and it was fantastic! The setback also allows you to raise...

    25hp Johnson trouble

Good bye Jimmy … and good riddance! Oh sorry poor baby, did I just put that in bold text? Someone with the unmitigated gall to question Pappy … of all the things I thought I would never see!

40 HP pees but still overheat alarm at speed

GULP ... ouch, it it were mine ... the impeller would have been replaced BEFORE it was even started up after 25-years of sitting! Regardless of what else may be going on ... you need a new one. Use OMC gasket sealer on all bolts. Sure, she might pump @ idle speeds, but those vanes take a fixed...

    Riveted aluminum in salt/brackish water?

If in for days only ... a good rinse should do it. It can take years of constant immersion for the salt to destroy a tin boat, but it surely will and once corrosion starts (chloride precipitate attack) it is like a cancer that doesn't stop! Now my tins boats are out at a dock 24/7, so besides...

    1982 Lund S14-15 DLX

Trust me ... you need a foil for best performance! But I've only owed 3-4 Lunds that size through the years ... See more here: Lund 14' ssv : hydrofoil?

    Wire schematic help

This is what I use for the DC Ground in boats ... Tips - Always put a SS internal-tooth lock washer on the post before adding any connector. I will also put another on top of the Engine ground. Bonus - More elegant that a just a term block in the stern for grounds to white-all-around light...

    Wire schematic help

FWIW I have NEVER, EVER had any boat with a ground to the HULL! Especially any TIN boat ... but what do I know, I've only wired 20-30 boats ...

    Confessions of a Total Doofus

TILLER - I twist waaaay to the left and my upper torso is facing towards the port/left side of the hull, but both feet are on the floor in front of the seat. OB - As said above, with momentum for your entry, I'll then do the 'reach around' and my left hand goes to the gear shift and right hand...

    Wire schematic help

Nope .. means it connects "somewhere". they don't tell you where that is ... but the color orients you. Your Purple wire is SWITCHED power - only hot when the ignition is ON, so now that I think of it, you gotta get that from off your key switch, unless there is such a purple lead that...

    Wire schematic help

Connects to your harness (if equipped) or key switch terminal, as I am sure they intend that to just indicate as a terminator or connection icon. But note that is not a symbol that show up on typically electrical circuit schematics, as they'll show the actual connection. In case of the blue...

    Wire schematic help

PPL is the wire color for Purple, which is switched 12VDC from the ignition switch. That is what is powering your gauges. Note only the Tach and Voltmeter are powered. BLU or Blue is for switched power to illuminate the gauges at night. BLK = Black or your ground. ORG = Orange ... Yada...

Lowe 16 transom replacement or renewal

That might do it, but me thinks you might need to cut the piece in 1/2 one way or the other ... If the wood is sounds as you say, I'd coat it with epoxy ($25) then paint with a good RustOleum enamel color of choice. The RAKA Epoxy 'sample' kit is only $18 and $8.50 and should give you enough to...

    Confessions of a Total Doofus

No worries ... we're here to help ... the only dumb question is the one NOT asked ... Rule #1 - Never come in FASTER than you're willing to hit the dock ... Water - Lake/pond, with no current, advise you always go in against the wind, wind can wreak havoc with tinnies ... Boat - Length? Any...

    Rear Seat Conversion

I too paint my props, anchors and chain, but use gloss white ... Last year was at the local sandbar and a guy stubbed his foot on his own anchor that was dark gray against the dark mud/sand bottom ... and he tore his big toe off ... left hanging by tendons and flesh - can you say OUCH...

    Need some advice

Someone else clearly did an awesome job rigging out that hull into a little bass boat, but be aware that with ‘rounded chines’ and not being the beamiest hull, she could be a little tippy … but even worse … that’s not a $2K hull in my opinion … I can show you how to add a removable drain plug...
