Great job on replica Sea King boat decal

That is a perfect touch to a deserving boat. Thanks for the tip.

    1962 Princecraft Speed King

Good for you, you know what you want and you are going to do it. If you don't mind the external work on the stern, you may consider adding floatation pods on the stern. It would add to the floatation and stability of the boat too.

    1962 Princecraft Speed King

Why not use rivets to seal the holes, having a piece of wood on the outside of the transom is going to look goofy. No one will even see the rivet heads on the stern of what can be a very good looking boat.

Outboard Mounting Bolts - No washers on Transom Bracket Side?

My thought would be large washer on the inside to distribute force as the inside is likely a wood filled space or something. If it was just a nut against a small washer, I would expect the bolt to work right through the inside stern leaving the motor teetering. The outboard mounting bracket is...

Best product to clean electrical connectors

Your wiring looks fine. Be sure your battery Box is strapped down and well secure. No need to break connections just spray with Fluid Film when you can. I like that you babeled your fuses Storm approaching here fast. Signing off for now.

need advice Alumacraft 1436 corroded bottom

In my opinion and what I would do... After repairs Make sure it floats with maximum load, engine, battery etc. Fill it full of water while it in shallow water so you can bail it out if it won't stay above the water when full. If it just wants to sink, add flotation, and try to sink it again...

    Keep it or sell it

Flip it and buy what you want. The endless time you will spend screwing around destroying a perfectly good boat will turn it into a useless pile of junk. Before you flip it, detail the boat and make sure everything works. That way the profit you make from the sale is beneficial to you the...

Best product to clean electrical connectors

Douglasdzaster, I have always sprayed Fluid Film (and shake it well!) directly into connectors and to battery post. Let it bubble and dislodge oxidation, then connect. You can wipe off the excess if you want. The film will protect until it gets rubbed off or worn away. For example, shake the...

Best product to clean electrical connectors

Stick with the Fluid Film. Don't use Isopropyl alcohol anywhere near Lexan or plexiglass (or your eyeglasses). It will remove protective coatings and can cause fracturing of some plastics. Windex (blue) is an awesome cleaner around boats, wires, connectors. Once the gold plating is gone the...

Jack Plate, Raise Transom or Add Splash Guards .. ????

Consider well the use you will expose your boat and life to. A good running engine that not quit in an emergency is excellent protection. Probably a good article on filling a small boat with fresh water in a shallow sheltered location to check flotation would go along good with what you are...

    rust converter thoughts

I still use Ospho after 25+ years, use a cheap paint brush and oil based paint for finish. My first coat of paint I mix a little paint thinner in the oil base paint so it flows into tight places instead of just making a paint bubble that captures moisture later on. Then do a second coat of paint...

Jack Plate, Raise Transom or Add Splash Guards .. ????

MtnDew, When I used my boat offshore Gulf of Maine I used plywood layered to bring the transom to full height as shown in the picture below. I moved to Florida and play in shallow protected waters so in my restoration of the boat I cut the transom as it was originally. If I ever wanted to...

Wood Glue or Epoxy? Laminating Transom Plywood

With the amount of engine you want to use I wouldn't give a warm bucket of spit for plywood. On a real boat, get some oak and laminate it up with West System epoxy. You are wasting time, energy, and materials with what you are doing.

    Charging starting battery?

The charging system on your motor probably better suited for topping off the charge lost when starting the motor and not much else. It can only provide so much current and no more so using it to charge a trolling motor battery not a good idea.

    Float Pods

I have used 5200 in direct contact with bare aluminum for years with no damage what so ever. Use good practice, like clean the contacting surfaces, allow it to set and cure.

    Need an opinion please

Long hose is preferred, the gauge will hold the pressure reading until the release button is depressed.Center scale of the gauge will give the best accuracy, in this case 30psi. Rubberized case will help protect it from some abuse but not much. With the hose you can reach much better and...

    Minn Kota at auction

If you look at the center picture at the black section of housing you will see the shaft seal. It had some kind of metal reinforcement that is rusted nearly to death. The rubber is hardening and likely would fail with any use. Dry as could be inside the motor housing. I will post more about it...
