Limited Edition 2013 TinBoats T-shirt interest?

I think I'd have to see pictures of both to decide.

Limited Edition 2013 TinBoats T-shirt interest?

I'd buy one. Is there a way to offer a variety of styles and colors? Long sleeve, short sleeve, hoodie, sweatshirt, womens shirt etc etc Are there any websites that allow you to upload your logo/design and then people can order whatever style shirt they want with that logo on it? That would...

When should I start running wires?

I like to get all my accessories mounted as early as possible in the build (bilge pump, live well pump, switch panel, fuses, bus bar(s), fish finder, nav lights, cabin lights, etc etc etc). Then I do everything else EXCEPT install the decks. Then I run all the wires, hook everything up, test...

    self etching primer vs primer

Not necessarily. Make sure it specifically says "self etching" on the can. I use this stuff, and it works awesome! You only need a LIGHT coat of the primer over bare metal before painting ... it covers really really well.

    1036 or 1232?

I know you said you don't have a lot of used boats in your area ..... But, I would HIGHLY suggest being patient and really looking hard to find a used 1436. You should be able to find one for less than $500 that is dry and solid. If you are willing to drive a few hours in any direction...

New Alumacraft very soon. V14, or MV 1448

If you are going to be in rivers and such .... get the MV. You'll be thrilled. I think you could get a nice aluminum deck extension installed for less than $500.

Want a foot control trolling motor, idk if I have the room

I agree! You can go wireless or wired (non-cable driven) and the pedal is small with a really long cord. You could operate the trolling motor from anywhere in the boat. Although extending the deck would also be a good idea.

Difference in draft with flat bottom vs shallow Vee?

The descriptions and names can be confusing for sure. Everything Alweld makes is considered a Jon boat. They make flat bottom jon boats and what they are calling V bottom jon boats. Most people call their V bottom jon boats mod-v jon boats, but they are basically the same thing. Its hard to...

    Aluminum Floor Drainage

If your hull and ribs are designed to allow water to flow freely, just slap a few drains in the floor and call it good. Don't just put the drain in the middle .... put then on the sides .... the boat very rarely sits perfectly level - the water will end up to one side of the floor or the other...

Difference in draft with flat bottom vs shallow Vee?

The Allweld boats you linked in your first post are actually mod-v jon boats, not shallow V-hulls. I believe that all of the responses have been comparing mod-v and flat front jon boats .... nobody has weighed in yet on an actual shallow v-hull boat. I'd say a light weight shallow-V can run...

Difference in draft with flat bottom vs shallow Vee?

I've been in both types of boats. The 2" difference is right on and sometimes its not even that much of a difference. But, I'd take the added benefits of the mod-v any day, even if it runs an inch or two deeper .... especially since you'll be on some big water. With no prop in the water and...

Questions on repairing dents in my jon

Welcome! :D To truly stop the flexing, you'll have to permanently attach more metal (I wouldn't use wood) and the only way to do this without punching holes in your boat is to have some aluminum plate welded over the affected areas. If you prep the area really well and get/cut the patches...

    Boat Price

    Boat Price

I agree it depends on location and all that .... but to try and help you out, if I were selling that boat in my area, things would be worth about: Trailer - 250 Boat - 250 Motor - 400 Accessories - 200 TOTAL $1,100 I'd list it on CL for $1,495 and take the first cash offer over 1000.

could i possibly be swamping the back (cmc or panther)

As a general rule, it is best not to exceed the HP rating on your boat. But if you do, I don't think you'll have any problems at all with that 40HP and either of those two T/T mechanisms. I had a 40 Johnson on a Lowe 1648 and it was completely fine .... could have handled more.

    Where do i start?

Regarding the difference in weight between wood and aluminum .... first off, you don't need to use diamond plate - just plain sheet aluminum will work just fine and I think its lighter. And 1/2" wood is going to be too thin, you'll want 3/4" for it to be really sturdy. In the end though, its...

    Where do i start?

You have a GREAT hull to play with there ... lots of possibilities. My recommendation would be to: 1. Lay down an aluminum floor that extends from the rear seat all the way to the front deck, and pop-rivet it to the ribs. 2. Extend the deck back two ribs. First, build some bracing and...

    25 Merc Carb Rebuild/reed question

I agree. Just set the jet screws through some trial and error by listening to the engine .... remember to wait 20 or 30 seconds after adjusting screws to let the engine settle in before making another adjustment.

    opinions on new 4 strokes

My 40HP Honda four stroke is a thing of beauty! Smooth, dependable, powerful, and unbelievably quiet .... you literally can not hear it when its idling. From what the local marine mechanic tells me, Honda and Yamaha are the best .... he doesn't like Mercury .... says he services mercury...
