    6 hp Evenrude questions

That's exactly why its important to check compression, spark, and make sure it starts. Lots of folks throw money at a motor trying to fix a simple little problem .... then, like you said, they just get frustrated and want to unload it. You can get some ridiculously good deals on motors that...

    '76 Starcraft Semi V

If you can post a picture of your boat, we can give you all kinds of ideas on how to build the framing and secure the decks.

    '76 Starcraft Semi V

Generally speaking, its a good idea to secure your framing to the hull somehow. However, for some builds, it is possible to build a free-standing frame/deck that you just set in the boat and the weight keeps it there. Read through the build threads on this site for lots and lots of ideas...

    6 hp Evenrude questions

An early 80's 6HP Evinrude is a darn good motor. When evaluating it, take along a compression tester and a spark tester. You can do the tests in five minutes and it will tell you a LOT about the motor. And make sure he starts it up and runs it for you. As long as it has good compression...

    16 ft mod-v

Lots of ideas on this subject. Not wrong, just different. Personally, I think putting things like Tuff-Coat or bedliner on or in a boat is a terrible idea. Water will still get under the coating and cause corrosion and it doesn't actually fix your leaks. And when you have to remove it...

    Canada fishing trip help

Planning a fishing trip to Canada is a really interesting experience. Some guys literally spend an entire year researching and agonizing over where to go. Other guys just book a trip based in a tip from a buddy. Neither is right or wrong .... just preference. Really, there are only a few...

    Canada fishing trip help

Here are a few nice lodges on the Seine. https://www.seineriverlodge.com/ https://indiaonta.com/ Here is one that has a campground. https://www.perchlake.on.ca/ There really are hundreds of drive-to lodges in Ontario that offer campgrounds. It can be really hard to narrow them down...

    Old Gunfight Rules

That gave me a chuckle. But in all seriousness .... if you live in a state where its legal to have a concealed permit .... GET ONE!!! Even if you don't want to carry, or even if you don't own a gun ..... GET THE PERMIT. At least then you have the option to legally carry to defend yourself and...

    Hook Brands....Does it really matter?

I use Gammi hooks for soft plastics like Senkos, tubes, and drop shot rigs. I think its very important to use a high quality, sharp hook when only one hook is being presented in a subtle way and getting a good hook-set is important. When using things with trebbles (spinners, crankbaits, spoons...

    Tow Rigs

I was using an 04 Explorer for a while, but that thing has some issues so I upgraded to an 03 Suburban 2500 with the 8.1L motor. Hopefully it will have enough power to pull my boat :P

    Plywood decks

Aluminum can be a great floor/deck ... sturdy, light, comfy, and durable. Wood can be a great floor/deck ... sturdy, light, comfy, and durable. It all depends on your budget, skills, tools, desires, preferences etc etc etc There is no right or wrong answer. Both materials have been used...

    25HP vs 40HP motor swap

A 40HP two-stroke will be just fine on your boat .... and you'll be really happy with the performance increase from the 25. If the boat is rated for a 40, then it can safely and comfortably handle the weight. No worries.

Floor - carpet or paint ? fasten to ribs or dont fasten

Looks sharp! My preference is to seal the wood really really well and then just lay a piece of carpet on top .... maybe using a little bit of velcro to keep it in place. That way I get the benefit of carpet while fishing, but can take it out and roll it up for cleaning the boat and for winter...

    seat pedestal mounting

There is only so much you can do when mounting a pedestal seat on a basic bench. Pedestals are much more solid when mounted in a full deck, but lots of folks have put them on benches with success. With that said, I think the aluminum sheet you mentioned is a great idea. You can rivet, bolt...

    1984 2HP Evinrude - PA - $100

I have a 1984 2HP Evinrude that I've been tinkering with. I've replaced just about every part I can think of, but I still can't get the darn thing to run. I'm done with it and want it to go away. Located in Glenmoore, PA. $100 cash. I have lots more pics if you are interested. Send me a...

starting and takeoff issues 1985 johnson 20 hp

Definitely sounds like a carb/idle adjustment issue. If you are handy and so inclined, you could take it home and start fiddling with different settings of the screws until you get it just right. Or you could do what I do and take it to a reputable shop and have a pro dial it in. I've given...

New Member: First Modification - Bow Mounted Trolling Motor

Welcome to TinBoats! If you haven't already found a mounting bracket, Cabelas and BassProShops sell similar things. You can also try some boat dealerships .... brackets like that are often an option on new boats, so maybe the dealer can order you one. You could also build one yourself out of...

    Looking for a used motor...

Can't go wrong with a Johnson or Evinrude from the late 80s and early 90s. They are great motors and you should easily be able to find one in your budget. The key is to find one that has been well cared for and is in good shape. Be picky!!!!!!! Your motor is the most important part of your...
