Rivet repair screw up — Polarkraft 169fs

The "right" way would be to take it to a welder. A way that would definitely work and last a lifetime: Marine adhesives (3M 5200) is amazing stuff. search online for "stainless elevator bolts". Put a dab of 5200 under the head of the bolt and use it to seal the hole with a stainless fender...

    Jon boat seating ?

On my little 12' jon boat, we have the clamps that fit over the seats like your photo. They have a clip that holds the front and back of the clamp so it can't move. The clip is screwed into the front and rear of the seat. They work fine. Without those clips, I think the seat would be prone...

Current remaining after flipping master switch?

I would bet that some device in the circuit has a capacitor as part of the circuitry. Capacitors store electricity. When you flip that switch, you are discharging the capacitor.

    Trailer Light Dilemma

I've had problems with using the trailer frame as the ground so many times that I don't do it anymore. I run an extra wire alongside the wiring kit for ground and bypass the trailer frame.

    Oxidation

If you're talking about oxidation on the aluminum, leave it. Aluminum oxide is a great layer of protection for aluminum. What is it that you are trying to do?

    Thread sealant on fuel line

The plastic threads will form to the brass threads. No sealant needed. Just don't over tighten.

    Extending bunks to support transom

I think you've got the right plan. I would also go with new wood. 2x4's are cheep and why not support as much of the hull as possible? If I was to do my bunks again, I would not bother to carpet them. The bottom of my boat isn't so pretty that it needs to be protected by carpet and...

Do you need a trailer dolly?

I don't use one on my boat, I can still muscle it where I want it - as long as I want it pretty close to where it already was. We do have one at work and you can move a lot of trailer with one.

Current recommendations for vintage parts sources

I've bought quite a bit from Crowley Marine online. I have also bought used parts on ebay for older outboards.

    Boat shakes.

I'm not sure that we understand what "Shakes" means. Is the boat porpoising where the front end rises and falls? Is the boat vibrating as it skips along on the water? Is the stuff inside the boat (console, floor) rattling? Is the motor surging and the boat speeding up and slowing down?

    Solution to EPA gas tanks

As you probably know, the EPA changed the rules for boat gas tanks a few years ago. Just like gas cans that were changed 20+ years ago, the EPA has made manufacturers make tanks that are air tight now. If you've ever tried to fuel up your lawn mower with the newer EPA gas cans, you probably...

    A couple quick questions

I don't understand and I'm curious. Explain more please? I wrap a ratchet strap around my outboards and attach the ends of the strap to the corners of the transom. This is to stop my motors from swinging back and forth everytime I go around a turn. But, those straps are pulling the motors...

    Long Shaft? Short Shaft?

Different manufacturers will vary a little and they may call the shaft lengths something different. This seems to mostly be accurate for smaller motors under 40hp: Short shaft: 15" regular shaft: 17" long shaft: 20-22" extra long shaft - could be anything over 20"

    A couple quick questions

I launch on a couple of sketchy ramps and changed all the bunks on my trailer to get my boat as low as possible. Can't trailer with the outboards down (one main and one kicker). I do not use a transom saver and have never had a problem. Most trips are less than 20 miles one way. I have...

    Parts motor?

The older Nissans have a good reputation and a lot of people are looking for them - in good condition, of course. I don't think parts are a problem, although it doesn't take a lot of parts before you end up paying for a used motor. The internal corrosion would be an issue that could make this...

    Installing depth finder

I used a block of PVC lumber and "glued" it to the transom with 5400 marine caulk.

    Work and Covid

My full time job is overseeing construction, maintenance, and custodial services for a large organization. My biggest responsibility right now is a $100M + 4 year construction project on one of our sites. That project is still going 100% so I'm still busy. My office staff, including my own...

    Trailer lights

I've had submersible trailer lights that were not waterproof. They were LED lights and the LEDs and circuitry were potted to be water proof but the light housings filled up every time I dunked the trailer and drained on the way home. These lasted less than one season. Junk. I then bought...

    Broken bolt in thermostat housing

Soak with penetrating oil Heat with torch (be careful, easy to melt aluminum or damage gaskets) Weld a nut on Find a machine shop that can EDM the bolt out for you. This will take 5 minutes and cost you less than $100. Usually soaking and heat while slowly rocking the bolt back and forth...

    Self Centering Rollers

I see the advantage of these over the tapered rollers for a flat bottom boat. The center of the roller would need to mate with one of the strakes on the bottom of the boat. But no, I don't know where to get them, I've never seen one before.
