A mag produces its own power. Usually the only thing in a mag that goes bad are the magnets. The only reason you need power(battery) is for your starter.

With the mag off you should be able to spin it by hand & it should spark. Yes I would check for cracked wiring & change condenser.

Liquid Wrench or WD to get bulb out.

The early ones had the same exhaust, but I believe in 79 or 80 the exhaust was different on the 15.

Look up the mid section to the splines in the motor to make sure nothing is in there.Make sure your drive shaft is where it belongs after installing the water pump..Did you slowly turn the motor over to line up the splines when installing the lower unit?

False. The throat is larger on the 15hp carb to flow more air.

I never had the problem your having. You must not have something lined up. Check water tube.

If he pumps the primer bulb & it runs ok odds are fuel pump needs to be rebuilt. When was the last time the impeller was changed?
