I think I'm done with Minn Kota

The two transom mounts came from a local marina - the same place that later reparied/replaced them. The Edge bow mount was bought on ebay from an out of state marina.

I think I'm done with Minn Kota

I had a friend tell me I have the worst luck with trolling motors. Also said they have a long history of being trouble-free. The warranty repair center put on the front that my problems are "unheard of" and I "got a lemon", and "its not something I've seen before". But, I've been through 3 Minn...

    Casting Decks

My 1442 is very stable while I'm standing on the raised from deck. I fish from it because I have more rod control for casting and retrieval. I think if you would try fishing from a deck in a wider jon boat such as a 42" or wider, you would find it isn't as unstable as you believe it is. I have...

Brands Using Foam Blocks Rather than Sprayed Foam?

My Alumacraft 1442NCS had a foam block under the front deck. That's the only thing I'm certain of because I cut into the front deck to make storage space and there was a block in there.

Artificial lure - that mean the lure is not a real lure ?

Insightful. But is a bait and a lure the same thing? Bait can be live. I'd say a lure is artificial - always.

    Why do fish strike lures?

It's instinct to bite what appears to be food or a nuisance. But only when the fish are hungry or territorial.

    Decided to go finesse

This is good fishing! I like using a drop shot for panfish. A No. 4 hook with a 1/8 oz sinker and use half of a senko, or sometimes a Gulp! minnow or other smaller thin plastic worm, wacky rigged. Bluegill, crappie, and bass in abundance with this rig. Had northern bite me off fishing this way too.

    TOWING WITH FWD

Tow vehicles I've used include an Infiniti G35 sports coupe with a six speed (that's a rear wheel drive), and a Hyundai Sonata 4 cylinder. With the Hyundai the biggest heaviest thing I hooked up to it was a 16 ft. decked out Lund Rebel with a 40hp engine. It towed, launched, and recovered the...

To much boat for my vehicle?

I have a Tacoma TRD OR which has 3.5L with manual transmission. There is a brake controller installed. I wouldn't hesitate for a second to hook up to that and go to the lake. I do a pontoon boat with it regularly.

How I added decks, storage, and floor to Alumacraft 1442NCS

A big GRINNING factor contributed to the saved weight is the speed I'm getting out of this F25 engine. The engine is stock. Boat is decked out as shown and has 2 size 29 batteries and 3 gallons of fuel. With just my fishing gear which consists of 2 large tackle boxes, 8 fishing poles, required...

    Newbie: 1959 lone star

I'm just here pondering why you didn't load the boat and trailer onto the truck backwards rather than positioning its weight right at the back end of the truck. :?

Rubber or Foam Flooring for Jon Boat

Put down foam insulation board - should require 1-1/2" thick foam. And then lay a rubber mat down that you custom cut around all the vertical ribs and compartments to fit your boat's entire floor.

How I added decks, storage, and floor to Alumacraft 1442NCS

You guys have any experience with the density of closed cell foam board insulation? In another thread before building this boat I mentioned that I experimented with the material with the intention of utilizing it anywhere I could. I placed a sheet flat on the floor at my place of business in a...

How I added decks, storage, and floor to Alumacraft 1442NCS

That is a battery compartment. I relocate one of my two size 27 batteries from the rear to that front-ish area whenever I install my new F25 gas outboard to offset some of the weight forward. This also provides space for my fuel tank in the back. That new Yamaha F25 is my favorite thing that I...

How I added decks, storage, and floor to Alumacraft 1442NCS

1/2" plywood would have been minimum for my decks and walls. A sheet is approximately 40 lbs. There is the equivalent of about 3 sheets between the decks, floor, and walls. It would have been 120 lbs. of wood. In contrast, 1" foam boards are under a pound a sheet, for a savings of ~117 lbs. Not...

How I added decks, storage, and floor to Alumacraft 1442NCS

Progress pictures...sorry, I don't have any. #-o But here are some pictures of the semi-completed boat. Nearly every surface you see other than the storage lids are 3/4" or 1" foam insulation in lieu of plywood.

    Need a new spinning reel

Exactly the reel you had previously is the one I was gonna recommend. But on a budget of $100 you can get the President XT - it is extra awesome and you'll still be under budget. Size 20 is my favorite for panfish and size 25 for bass and trout. I also like the Pflueger Summit XT available at...
