Thanks Pappy. I do have an IR temp gun, so I will check that once I get my impeller parts, with new thermostat and gasket. COVID19 really screwed stuff up with Crowley Marine (where I ordered the parts from), and they are having large shipping delays.

Have not yet. I have new plugs on order. Wanted to fix the suspected impeller issue before I start tearing more apart. After the 4th weekend, I'll have to do a compression test and see what I get for numbers. It cranked evenly (sounding) comparing it to a dead cylinder 2 stroke sound.

Mine made the identical "rev limiter bounce" that yours made in the first linked video. I'm hoping it is not the temp sensor, and that maybe my thermostat stuck closed, or the impeller has improper output (damaged fins).

By lower mounts, do you mean the two intake grates that are in the lower gear housing? If I'm understanding the manual correctly, it looks as if the impeller and housing are right above the split in the lower unit housing, just above the gear case half. So I basically need water up to that point...

My apologies, it's a 1990 Johnson 30hp J30TELESS. I have never heard a hot horn or any short of chime on it at all. There is no key, as it is a tiller, and it doesn't make any sort of chime when placing the kill tether key on the switch.

Not so much worried about the very minor indentation from a roller wheel, it's the corrosion around the riveted chine that I'm worried about.

Thanks for the suggestion. The plan is to find out where the leaking area(s) are, and mark them with a sharpie so I have a good idea of where to look for damaged seams and/or rivet heads. Now I need to see if I can find some old railroad spikes from somewhere.
