    tying flies

Dedawg, keep an eye on the dollar stores for materials as well. You get some nice pastel semi transparent materials when using the fibers from the artificial feather dusters at the Dollar Tree and similar stores. I also use their silver, red, and gold mylar shredding for gift bag stuffing...

    tying flies

I noticed a couple of your FnF had heads that looked like splitshot crimped onto the hook....if so, you may like to try some of Bass Pro Shops Clamshot sinkers. They are oval and make a nice minnow head shape when flattened down on the hook.

which carpet glue for wood flooring?

I'm preparing for carpeting also.....used a router to round off the edges, both top and bottom and then will use liquid nails on the edges when doing the carpet and stapling on the bottom. I recommend three coats of an acrylic enamel before putting the carpet down. I'm using the spray adhesive...

    Covering with a tarp?

Filling the jugs with water works well, just be sure to leave a few inches empty to allow the expansion when freezing. You can tie the tarp fore and aft and hang bottles along the sides...this will keep the tarp secure from shifting.

    Plywood Question....

Thanks to all for your replies. I've gone with the interior 5/8, it's really a tad over in thickness now that I understand their sizing measurements. Will be giving it three coats of Acrylic Gloss Enamel after having rounded the edges with a router round over bit and sealing any edge voids...

    Slippery Reel Handle

Also, one last thought, take a course sandpaper to the handle being careful to move the sandpaper in a specific direction parallel to the rod. If you did the sides of the handle with a 60 grit or an 80, it should work very well. In short, sand both the knob and the side of the shaft of the...

    Slippery Reel Handle

Another option,,,, Wrap ten or twelve wraps of rod wrapping thread and then coat with a scant application of nail polish....will be more permanent than the rubberbands.....just wrap in a careless manner leaving a few little spaces and at the same time a few overlays here and there...

    Jig Paint

powder painting is quite tough, also on regular paint, even acrylic craft paint, you can overcoat with epoxy....that's the only two I know may be tough enough. After that, when either fails, you can touch them up quickly with nail polish.

    Slippery Reel Handle

Using the small rubber bands they sell at Wally World for little girl's pony tails, wrap it on the handle in a figure 8 until the rubber band is taught. Under one knob, then twisting one turn over the top and under the other knob until it's tight. Won't last forever, but will solve the problem...

Anybody here know where I can find..

Space wise, you'd be much better off rigging a rope with pulleys for steering. On an old boat, I rigged two pulleys outboard from the motor an old Evinrude 5.5. I used a bolt on eye fastened to the motor ran the rope from the eye over to a pulley then up to the front pulley mounted just in...

    Plywood Question....

The only 5/8 Exterior grade plywood locally available is pressure treated heavy stuff. I'm thinking of using Interior grade, coating with two good coats of Acrylic Latex Enamel and then adding the marine grade carpeting and in so doing, will be coating the edges with Liquid Nails as well. The...

Putting in flooring with curved patterns....

AZavenger, thanks....I remember that's pretty much how they worked it on a home repair show, laying stick on tile on a curved baseboard.....they cut out a wooden wheel from 3/4 inch wood and put a pencil through the center of the wheel and then simply rolled the wheel along the baseboard with...

    Fly Fishing Gatlinburg,TN

I know I'm posting this much too late.....after your trip. Just wish I'd found this thread sooner. Next time you are in the Gatlinburg area, take a little side trip over to Townsend. Stop in at the Little River Outfitters, run by Byron and Paula Begley.....really nice folks. The fly shop is...

    Waders and water walking gear.

If the water isn't too cold, swap the waders for light cotton pants and sneakers with carpeting glued on knap side down. It gives you a cushy walk and are easy to hike in. Won't slip on rocks and are very comfortable. I tuck the pants into the socks, and when using liquid nails to glue on the...

Putting in flooring with curved patterns....

Ahab, tried the V hull decking search to no avail. You also put me on a fine job of cardboard template for a jon boat, which does not help me to get the curves onto a cardboard for the V shaped bow piece. I appreciate your input, but still don't have a clue in fabrication of a curved template...

Putting in flooring with curved patterns....

I'm about to put in flooring in my new Deep V boat. I can put in sections between seats as they are all straight line edges and easily measurable...but when I get to the bow, I am honestly stumped on how to do the curves. Would appreciate any help offered....very much. Thank you...Mac

Plywood edges and marine carpet = split edges

Another cause of carpets splitting at the edges can occur when the edges of the plywood are not properly sealed, either with adhesive or paint. When the edges of plywood get wet, they swell.

    trolling motor

Opinion......I think a 40 lb thrust would do you very well. Just make sure, as already posted, you can turn the head around on the shaft. Some, such as certain Minn Kota motors, have the head attached to the shaft with a single nut and bolt.....easy to remove and swing the head 180 degrees and...
