Boat ramp traffic way down and fewer boats on the water?

There's always 'deals' on FB and CL but no takers. If I bought everyone of them I'd have 100 boats and motors. A neighbor has been trying to sell his old boat for years now, a '93 14ft Starcraft with an older 9.9hp Evinrude and a welded galvanized trailer. He moved here with it from PA about 8...

Boat ramp traffic way down and fewer boats on the water?

Its been sort of dead here, a few boats are on the water but not nearly what I'd expect. They also made it hard to renew boat registrations here if you didn't register in 2020 during the pandemic. If you skip a year you have to go to a main or regional motor vehicle office to renew your...

Mid 1980’s Mercury 35 wire corrosion

Looks like a CDI module. Those wires don't need insulating, they need to be replaced. I'd cut back the harness until I got to clean wire and then solder and heat shrink on new leads and terminals. Use only tinned or marine grade wire, most likely 16 ga. If you can't get back to good wire, then...

    16' Stardraft motor capacity?

I figured I'd add an update here. By the time I got back last week, the 16' boat was no longer for sale, I'm thinking the owner decided not to sell it because when I went by there he had a super clean 33hp Evinrude on the back with a four blade prop, and the boat was full of crabbing gear...

    16' Stardraft motor capacity?

I called the seller to see if I could secure the boat before I get there and he told me so far only one person other than me had looked at it but they didn't have cash and wanted to trade instead. Either way, I'll be back there next Monday night, hopefully its still there. I'll be looking around...

    16' Stardraft motor capacity?

I bought my 14' Seafarer last July off Craigslist, it came with a minty clean trailer, mint clean 9.8hp Mercury, and the hull looks brand new, even though its a 1973. The guy had it listed for almost a year, I emailed, got no reply several times then I finally emailed the guy my phone number and...

    16' Stardraft motor capacity?

I most likely will if its still there when I get back from vacation next week. My basic plan would be to strip the boat down and paint it the same green color my 14' is painted, add some lights and swap over my motor and trailer and see how it does on the water here. I was sort of hoping...

    16' Stardraft motor capacity?

This is the next best deal I've seen and its rough at best, the foot of dirt and two trees growing out it don't do it any favors and I'd expect it to need all new wood and who knows what else is hidden under all the dirt. The next best deal is over $2k.

    16' Stardraft motor capacity?

Are new boats cheaper down your way? The best price I've gotten here on a brand new deep 16' hull has been $2,300 plus tax, or about $2,500 out the door for the bare hull only. Add another $1,200 for a galvanized bunk trailer with 12' wheels. The way I see it, $750 versus $2,500 sounds pretty...

Has anyone installed a kill switch for trolling motor?

Maybe something like a knife switch with a tether added? Maybe add a spring and release pin to unlatch the switch as well? These are common on RVs and such.

    16' Stardraft motor capacity?

I suppose I could get him to come down a bit on the price but what drew me to the ad was the price. I thought the price was pretty cheap. About a year ago I priced new hulls and a new, bare, 16' hull was over $2,500, with some being more than $3,500. Finding anything with a short transom like...

    16' Stardraft motor capacity?

I looked at a 16' aluminum Starcraft today in hopes of maybe upgrading from a 14' to a 16' hull for some more space. https://southjersey.craigslist.org/boa/4644275071.html To my surprise, the 16' hull is way lighter although much deeper than my 14' hull. I'd guess the 16' hull to be under 225...

Thinking of upgrading from 14' to 16'?

First off, the lakes here are mostly restricted to 9.9hp. I'm running a 1973 Mercury 9.8hp two stroke. I've been running a 14' Starcraft Seafarer 14' for over a year now and really like the boat but with two people aboard I'm probably pushing the weight limits a bit. I looked at a 16' version...

First post, looking at a second boat

I'm just hoping its still available when I can afford it again. I think the combination of cold weather and poor economy are the only reason the seller still has that thing. I've been boating all my life and never saw one here before, but always wished I had something built like that thing is...

First post, looking at a second boat

Its not just layoffs this time, the boss said he just can't keep up with all the costs added by the new health care laws, he said he can't run with less then 50 people, and can't afford to pay for health care for everyone and stay profitable so he figured it was a good time to just hang it up...

First post, looking at a second boat

It would have already been mine if they weren't planning on handing out lay off notices to everyone here this Friday. I guess in a way its a good thing they let me know ahead of time rather than after I spent my money on a boat. Things like food and the mortgage come first. I was really...

First post, looking at a second boat

I saw the Fiberglassics site, not much there on this model though. I also gave a quick look on the second site but didn't see any pics of one in this style. There seems to be two versions of this boat, one from the original Duratech Co., which has smooth sides, and those built by Penn Yann after...

First post, looking at a second boat

Basically what I see is that it would cost me $2600 for that trailer new, and at least half that for a good used one, which is hard to find here due to saltwater corrosion. So figuring the trailer is worth at least $1300, he's only asking about $700 for the boat, but they go as a package. I...

First post, looking at a second boat

First post here, I've been a tin boat owner for 30 years, I pretty much don't care to own anything but. I've been fishing from a 14' 1973 Starcraft Seafarer for years, and its a great boat for small ponds and the upper river but have been looking for something a bit larger, or more importantly...
