Thanks for all the info, I only mentioned the 90 motor because that's what dealers have in stock. Waiting on their quote for the boats with a 70 as there is a 100 lb. difference and speed is not my number one. That combined with a jack plate and I should be able to get skinny enough.

Getting ready to pull the trigger on a new boat. Looking at the G3 Bay 18 and the Xpress XP18CC (both with a Yamaha 90) as they are the only boats with dealers within an hours drive from me. Any opinions on these models or the boat brands in general ?

Thanks for the thought, I'll give the others a second look. According to the Sea Ark site the 16' uses .100 and weighs 475 while the 18' is .125 at 520 lbs. I'm sure that is a bare hull without a console or floor. The 16' Sea Ark is only 20 lbs. more than my 16' Lund which is .063.

I had my best results with a heat gun and careful scraping then cleaned up the reside with acetone. Had intentions of getting new decals but decided I liked the hull better with out.

Personally I would change it for the balance issue. Most of the inshore waters by me have large oyster reefs and depending on the tide they can be troublesome. I have seen guys driving with worse props than yours.

This is a cat boat in the sailing world (not to be confused with a catamaran) . A Mono hull with the mast stepped way up into the bow. Originally designed, mid 19th century, as a tough work boat to handle the rough Cape Cod waters.

Of course the government didn't build the tanks but they regulate the manufacturers on how they build them and that's the problem. I purchased a new Yamaha tank. I feel the quality is higher than the generic over the counter Walmart tanks but it still has the EPA regulated non venting cap.

I purchased a new EPA tank with no vent and tried a couple of solutions but eventually gave up. Now I just open the cap slightly and vent the tank.

Thought about using aluminum for decking but went with marine board for just that reason. Painted it with light grey porch and deck paint and it has held up very well. Where ever possible I use stainless machine screws or bolts with flat washers and nylon locking nuts. I also insert rubber washers if the flat washers come in contact with the aluminum.
